Xbox Live Gold for child account?

Hi, I purchased an Xbox Live Gold membership yesterday and it shows up on my profile just fine. However my son has a child account (which I had to approve from my own account) and when he tries to join his friend's game it says he doesn't have a Live membership.
I logged in to the website as his account and confirmed that the Live subscription does not show up. I thought the membership was shared with child accounts that are linked to my own adult account. What are we doing wrong? TIA...

Moving from Xbox 360 to Xbox One and Family Sharing

Hi - we currently have an Xbox 360. There is a child account which is used permanently and has Xbox Live Gold on it. The Gold expires soon and at the same time we will be getting an XBox One. There is also a Parent account associated with the child account
but this does not have XBox Live Gold.

So when we unwrap the shiny new XBox One on Christmas Day we can migrate the child account across but it will no longer have Xbox Gold as it will have just expired.

Will it be best for me to add XBox One Live Gold to the
Parent Account and then the Child Account can be part of Family Sharing (and I can add other accounts if I want for other kids), or will renewing the XbOx Live Gold on the Child account still allow Family sharing with both adults and children alike?

Hope someone has some good advice for me!

• Golden Age: Keep your Xbox Live Gold membership active for 6 consecutive months, earn 200 MyVIP Gems
• Golden God: Keep your Xbox Live Gold membership active for 12 consecutive months, earn 400 MyVIP Gems

 

unless you are on a One each account MUST have it's own gold membership does not matter if it is a child account. now if you are on a One you can share gold with other users on the same console (not 100% sure on that).

Yes, it is indeed true that your child account will use your Xbox Live subscription. Currently, I do not see a
Xbox Live Gold membership active on your Xbox Live profile. Are you using this profile as your 'adult account'?

If not and you have an active Xbox Live Gold membership on that account as well as your
child account linked to it then you should be good to go! In case your child account does not work with your Xbox Live subscription, please contact
Xbox Phone Support. They will be able to look into your account and see if anything is going wrong in there.
