xbox live Gold for $39.99 promotion

Before my Gold subscription expired, there was a promotion on the xbox homepage that said I could renew for $39.99 but only if I renewed through the in-dash link. When I tried to select the renew now button nothing happened. So I contacted support and they
told me that I couldn't get the promotion because I still had an active account and that I just needed to wait until the account expired and then I could take advantage of said offer. This made no sense as the promotion said something to the effect of "Don't
lose these valuable benefits, renew now!" which clearly indicated it was something you were supposed to do before your account expired. I listened to the support guy and waited for the account to expire and then of course the promotion disappeared. Now where
the promotion was it just says "Gold members get up to $700 in free games a year, join now."

Can I still get the promotion?

Although at this point I've wasted so much time with chatting with support and this that I'm not sure a few bucks off was worth the effort. I'm posting here because that is also what the next support guy said to do. I feel like the chat support guys are
just telling me anything to get me to clear off there docket.

Renewal offer

I had a promotional offer on my xbox one dashboard the other day that I can no longer find that was for 12 months of Xbox Live Gold for $39.99. I can no longer find this promotion on the dashboard, can someone please help me get this back?

Really sorry to hear about the confusion with this promotion. You should have been able to make the purchase while your subscription was still in effect, although it's possible that at the time you tried to purchase your dashboard hadn't yet refreshed to show
current offers.

Unfortunately, if this particular promotion is no longer show we don't have a way to offer you a promotional price. Please keep an eye out for future promotions and if you have any issues with it, please let us know.

So I get hosed because the support people say whatever they think will get me to clear off their chat? Seems like that's the wrong way to do business.

I am having the same issues with this recent $39.99 renewal offer. Clicking on the renewal button simply takes me to the deals page. You can renew there, but not for 40 bucks. It looks like they're trying to trick people into paying 60 bucks anyway. Which
is unethical, to say the least.

So, I wonder who is eligible? I'm guessing no one is eligible. I also have been a gold member for a long time, 9 years. Thanks for posting this transcript.
