Xbox Live Gold Broke My Xbox 360

I went to buy Xbox Live Gold with that $1 deal and then I got all of those dumb errors that say that Microsoft isn't authorized or whatever and then I tried to do it on the website and found the one month free trial and took it and now I can't play any games
and have tried every last step to fix this. I tried cancelling Gold but all it did was cancel the renewal which I didn't want anyway. But I don't want Gold at all right now. I wanted to play online but it said I needed Gold, so I got it but now I can't play
games because it's giving me the open tray and "can't read disc" errors. I've tried everything suggested to fix them, but none of it works. It happened immediately after getting the free Gold membership and so now I don't want ti anymore because all it's doing
is messing everything up. I would like to be able to play GTA V again.

I also do not want to have to once again put in my phone number and other personal information to probably not even get the problem fixed anyway. The first time I try to do anything fun with Xbox outside of games themselves, everything breaks. That's not
a good first impression at all.

I'm extremely tired by the way, so this whole post may seem kind of dumb and I also am kind of new to Xbox 360 anyway. I've been up the entire time trying to fix this, but at this point I'm starting to think that it's truly impossible right now.

Couldn't get access to my gold live status on XBOX ONE

Wait so you get 2 free games every month even if you stop paying for Gold??

Yeah, unless something has changed recently, you get to keep your Xbox 360 gold games.

But the Xbox One gold games you need to have an active subscription.

Hi rGalacticHorse. Sorry to read about your bad experience

However, know that the Gold status of your Gamertag is NOT stored on your console itself. It's just a database setting that the console queries when you log in to Live. So the Gold membership status can't change anything in your console.

It's just like calling the Department or Motorvehicles to schedule an appointment to update your drivers license address, and then your car's muffler making weird noises. Making that appointment can't break your car's muffler.

So the drive failing directly after you tried to get Gold is unfortunately just a badly timed coincidence.

When you say you get the "Open drive" error, do other game discs besides GTA V show up? Have you tried movie DVDs? Do Music CDs show as working?

This is in order to narrow down on the drive error: If Music CDs show, but Movie DVDs don't, it seems your Laser is misaligned and can't focus on the finer density DVD disc, but "larger" written CDs can be read.

If DVDs can be read, but ALL games don't work, then a Firmware malfunction is unable to decrypt the encrypted Xbox game discs.

And if other games besides GTA V can be read, it might be that your GTA V disc is dirty or has a different problem of being read.

 

No 360 games work, neither do any DVDs. I don't have any CDs, but they most likely don't work either. I'm sorry for associating the problems with Gold, I was tired and I was getting frustrated trying to fix the problem.

I make sure that any and all discs that I own are perfectly well kept and don't get any dirt or scratches. All of the games were bought new and are always inside the cases when not being played, the same thing for any DVDs.

Also, if it doesn't and you are considering sending the console in for a repair please be advised that the older FAT consoles are no longer supported for repairs.
