xbox live gold accepted but no multiplayer

I figured this out yesterday after a day and a half of frustration. I bought my kids an xbox one s for christmas and two prepaid 12 month gold cards. The cards were excepted but they were unable to play online. Everything on the xbox and on the pc stated
that they had gold (ie they could message people and get gold deals) but they couldn't play online. It only seemed to be an issue when they went into a game (for us it was COD: Black Ops 3) and it wouldn't let them play online. It kept erring out stating
that this profile cannot play online. After many hours of frustration (20 hours with 2 of them on chat with microsoft support) I figured it out. It seems there is a new setting under the privacy settings that I didn't know about. If the kids have a child
account in a family plan this will hopefully fix it. I loaded my account on the xbox and went into their privacy settings and I think it was the comms and security tab and multiplayer was blocked. Once I switched it to "allow" everything worked. I hope

i have purchased a xbox live gold prepaid card for 12 months i have redeemed the code and the xbox tells me the code was accepted and redeemed but it wont let me play in multiplayer or join and create parties at all i have no suspensions bans and i dont
have any balance due issue on my account

I recently redeemed a 12 month Xbox live gold account. It says it was accepted and my gold status is reflected on my homepage.. When I try to log into Elder scrolls online, it says I need a profile that supports multiplayer (mine does) or I need to purchase
a gold account.
