    XBOX Live GamerTag inactive


    Hello All and thank you for taking the time to read my question.

    I am highly anticipating the new release of Microsoft Flight Sim and took this time to update my profile information. I noticed that my gamertag is some randomly generated tag. I made attempts to change it to '' and the profile website tells me
    it's available. When I try to claim the gamertag, multiple browsers spit out an HTTP400 Error.

    I chatted with the support folks and was advised that the reason for this is that the gamertag is taken by an old inactive account. I have a very strong suspicion that this particular gamertag is associated with one of my old email addresses that I haven't
    used for years. I asked the chat gentleman about possible petitioning to get that gamertag without a suffix and he pointed me in the direction of this community.

    So my question is, is there anyway I can attempt to obtain this gamertag without a suffix? I have been using the '' online alias for at least 2 decades so I would be really surprised if there is someone else out there using this particular tag.

    Any information or assistance that could be provided would be awesome!

    How to submit a ticket for requesting an inactive account gamertag to be reset?

    How do you know it's inactive? Gamertags are used on several Microsoft services,not just Xbox live,so there is no way to know if a gamertag is inactive or not.

    Just because a gamertag has low gamerscore of hasn't logged into Xbox live for a certain amount of time does not mean it's inactive.

    Earlier this year Microsoft released some inactive gamertags from the Original Xbox Live service.

    Afraid not.

    Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live so you can't know whether a gamertag is inactive or not.

    If a gamertag isn't used for 5 years then it is made available.

    As others have stated, gamertags get periodically released after they have been inactive for a while.

    Some accounts may apear as inactive in xbox live (may have no gamerscore for example) but are actually used for other purposes such as an email account.

    Once they are marked as expired, there is another waiting period to confirm they are inactive (the owner of the gamertag can re-activate the account to keep the tag if they want)

    Hey SmG! If the Gamertag is currently taken by another user (inactive on Xbox LIVE or not) then it is not available. There are certain cases where Gamertags are resurfaced, which it sounds like you're inquiring about, but this is determined when an account
    has been inactive for many years. If you're still seeing that profile then this wouldn't be the case! You'll have to find another Gamertag that you like.
