Xbox live from a dorm room

Hey there,

I just moved into my college dorm and I can't seem to access Xbox live. I'm trying to connect it via Ethernet to my laptop because my laptop has a really good connection strength from the schools Wifi so far. I've tried bridging the connection and that
hasn't gotten me anywhere also, if that's any consolation.

I've tried it wirelessly also, and it still didn't work. If anyone has any tips or a sure fix, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I also wanted to add that in order for me to access the schools wifi, an ID/password is needed. Since Xbox 360's don't have web browsers that you can use OFFLINE, theres no way for me to put the info in and use the wifi as is.

Xbox live in college dorm help?!

I am having trouble connecting to Xbox live in my college dorm room. My colleges Internet is very secure and thats what is causing the issue. I have an Ethernet port in my room. Some help would be very much appreciated,

How about my son going away to school. Will he be able to play our library from his dorm room?

That's exactly what the issue is. You should talk to the school's internet administrator to see if they can help connect the console.

As Onyx mentioned, there's always a good start, to talk with the IT depertment of your school and ask them if the firewall has any rule restrictions regarding port 3074, for Xbox traffic.

If you have a third-party firewall installed on your computer, disable this and use Windows firewall instead.

Xbox 360 as the Xbox One, do not support
802.1x, for the authentication process.

Net connection in dorms and hotels have limited access to the service. Since the local administrator of the network is someone else you are not able to open the ports in your router and hence the service of xbox live is not available for that kind of connection.
