xbox live free weekend not working

I got a message saying FREE GOLD FOR THE WEEKEND but its may 2nd and still no gold im on destiny and its saying you need to upgrade to xbox live GOLD to get the multiplayer and well it says on homepage on on your website that it is free this weekend so someone
plz tell me why it is not working

No... Xbox Live is not free this weekend, multiplayer is. The free multiplayer weekend does not give you the option to download GWG for free.

has anyone had any issue with the free weekend gold ad not working if the ad doesn't work how can get the free weekend>

Free gold weekends do not change your account status to gold. So there are some things that still require a full gold subscription in order to take part in Destiny will only work with a full gold subscription.

It looks like the free trial didn't work. There was a free gold weekend this past weekend on live which could be why you were able to play online with a silver account.

This weekend Xbox LIVE Gold is free to all members. This would be why you're able to join parties, and watch Netflix if you have a subscription to it.
