XBox Live for family members

We have a Xbox One and a Xbox 360. I have Xbox Gold for my account, however I created an account for my son.

I was hoping that he would be able to play Minecraft online via his account on Xbox 360, but it's grayed out which the forums tell me is due to lack of xbox live gold.

However, on the Xbox One, he can log into his account and play Minecraft online on that console. Why the difference? Does the Xbox One not require gold or is there a better way to let him use my gold, without having to buy another subscription?

Gold Family pack only allowing 3 accounts

What is a primary and secondary Family Pack account?

The Xbox LIVE account used to purchase a Gold Family Pack membership is the primary Family Pack account. All other Xbox LIVE accounts associated with the Family Pack membership are secondary accounts.

To see and add family pack members:

On your console, sign in using the Xbox LIVE account that you used to sign up for a Family Pack membership (the primary account).

Go to Settings, and then select Family.

The primary and secondary accounts are shown. To add or remove family members, please see

Managing Gold Family Pack members.

The XBOX ONE has a share built in. Meaning any person who has an account on that console (whether they have a gold subscription or not) can enjoy all the content that the active gold subscriber has purchased. The 360 does not allow this and you would need
to purchase a second subscription for your son in order for him to play games online.

Axemator is correct Xbox 360 you need to buy separate gold subscription for each user account to go on xbox live whereas Xbox one all you need is one gold account which can be transferred from xbox 360 and you can then make multiple accounts that will get
gold benefits for free on Xbox one only.

When you add a family member to an Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack, you have to add it to the same console as the primary account holder. However, after you add that family member to your Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack, they can recover their account on a different
console and still remain a part of the Family Pack. AND The Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack gives you four 12-month Gold memberships for less than the price of two.

You can transfer Microsoft points when in a Family Membership IceStorm from the 'parent' account to one of the child accounts in amounts of 400 I believe.

How do I share points with family members (secondary accounts)?

The primary member on the Gold Family Pack membership can give Microsoft Points to other family members (secondary members), so that they can make purchases on Xbox LIVE.

Give points to family members

1. On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the Family Pack primary account (the account used to sign up for the Family Pack membership).
2. Go to My Xbox and select Family Centre.

Select the member that you want to give points to.
Select Grant Allowance.
Follow the on-screen instructions to give Microsoft Points to the secondary member. Points that you give to a secondary member cannot be reversed later.

Note If you don’t have enough points in your account, you’ll be prompted to add more points before giving points to the secondary member.
