    Xbox live downloaded game prices?

what ever happened to competitive pricing for games in the xbox live store? They announced this a long time ago and I have yet to see it in action. Games from years ago are still priced at $59.99 U.S. like NBA 2k14. So when will these games and future games
be adjusted to compete with disc? Or did Microsoft ditch the idea of wanting people to go mostly to downloaded games. I used to only buy discs but after my last event with my Xbox one I would rather buy downloaded games. My first Xbox one I bought in the summer
of 2014 and in February of 2015 on a random night my Xbox started to make grinding noises and wouldn't read discs, on the same night my wife lost a couple of her credit cards and since we have a two year old son who likes to go through her purse and put things
into my Xbox I put two and two together. I opened the Xbox and was surprised that nothing was inside the disc drive and when I closed it up it wouldn't turn on again. The next day I read online that the Xbox one had a "rare" problem (I'm sure the rrod started
out rare for the 360 also) of having the disc drive break and Microsoft would send owners a new Xbox if they had this problem but since I had already opened mine thinking it was another issue I voided the warranty. Even though I was frustrated by losing out
on a 500 dollar purchase after being a long time Xbox fan and user I buckled down and bought another a few months later. I would appreciate if downloadable games were more comparable to discs price wise so that if I lost the ability to use the disc drive again
then at least I could still play my games.

Side note... it really grinds my gears that new versions of the Xbox (1tb and/or halo 5 versions) come out after long time fans and users have already bought one (or two in my case). The world of gaming is changing so that those who wait the longest and
don't get the new releasing games and consoles earn the most. Where's the incentive to buy anything right away anymore. Examples being larger Xbox system storage, custom systems, or games rereleasing with more content. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    :)

Titanfall - Xbox One Digital £33.24

CDkeys have this for £34.99, don't forget 5% FB code.Titanfall Full Game Download | Xbox Live | SimplyCDKeys

Works out even cheaper than getting Xbox Credit on cheap and buying game for £54.99 (avg. £42 or £37 if going US route).

    Xbox live downloaded game prices?

Well, for your first "issue", NBA 2K14 was just on sale a few weeks ago super cheap. As for the prices themselves, this topic has been brought up and threads have been created numerous times. From the majority of us here, we believe the publishers set
the game's price for the marketplace. There, currently, is no competition for a digital purchase given the way the marketplace works. MS doesn't want to compete first hand with its retailers (Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart, etc.) who sell their products. At
    least, that is my understanding.

As for your second "issue", welcome to the world of electronics. Everything you purchase will eventually drop in price or be given a shiny new gloss of paint. My LG TV was approximately $1500 when I bought it a few years ago... you can probably get it
for $750 now. There are newer/better versions of the TV I purchased that would cost me the same $1500 that I paid initially.

  5. Publishers set the pricing but that isn't the only factor.

Microsoft take a cut of everything sold on the marketplace, just like Sony or Valve do on their services. As far as I know Microsoft has never said what percentage they take from sales.

Also remember that Microsoft have the ability, just like the others, to set a minimum price for content sold on their service. Does no-one remember how hard companies have had to work in order to offer free DLC for games over Live. Who remembers how Valve
was forced to charge for DLC on Live that was free elsewhere.

Yes publishers set the price but don't be fooled into thinking that Microsoft have no influence on that pricing.

Exactly, you can't tell me that Microsoft doesn't at least have a say in the price. Plus, why would they care about being cooperative with other companies. They do sell their products but Microsoft would just sell everything from their own site and stores
if needed. Plus, even though these stores sell their product every company competes at least a little with every other company so by not competing with these other store prices they are really just losing part of their potential market, and I doubt Microsoft
got to where they are now by avoiding parts of the market to allow others to thrive.

For the second issue... I wasn't talking about drop in price, obviously everything drops in price eventually (besides games within the Xbox store apparently) my issue with hardware is that they will wait to release better versions months after people already
buy the original. Instead of rushing a product out to meet a deadline or beat a competitor they should think more about what they want to do and what the consumer would want. After buying a 500GB xbone you bet your *** ill be *** when I see a 1TB come out
for the same price and it might even include a free game. Instead I'm forced to go buy an external. I'm just saying consumers have more input than we think and we don't always have to just go along with everything. With reflecting comes results.

  7. It's not as if Microsoft don't offer the external option for storage. So what if a larger drive model One comes out, I have a 3tb external connected to mine.

You take your chance when you buy at launch with the full knowledge that something better is going to come along. If I didn't know that I'd be dead from a heart attack after building my first PC.

As to the digital pricing. Yes people are kidding themselves if they think it is only the publishers responsible.

I think people are missing the point with the upgrading hardware. Building a PC you obviously have the ability to buy individual parts and put them in yourself, saving you money in both areas, as well as the desire to do so as much as you want. Buying a
1500 TV I would hope that after spending that much you wouldn't care what came out after that for a long time because you should be pretty set with quality and functionality. But with consoles these days they are releasing so many custom themed ones that it's
dissapointing that some consumers have to miss out on the one they truly want all because they bought one a little early that's all. Obviously even if they told everyone their plan as soon as they decided on it there would still be some would have already
bought one so I think to compensate for an issue like that they could offer an upgrade ability which would at the very least reduce the cost of the new Xbox and they could sell the old one as a refurbished. I'm just saying there is an issue there and if Microsoft
and Xbox in particular are really moving in the direction they say they are then they would want to try and solve any issue that may be brought up, so I'm just doing my part and bringing it up, the rest is up to the support of those who agree and the producers.

Murph, we're not missing the point. At launch, the Xbox One cost a lot more money to make than it does now. The parts involved aren't as "new", so the price goes down. This allows MS to pack in a larger HDD and not take a loss for doing so. Looking at
your gamercard, you've been playing on Xbox systems for awhile. Given your own history/knowledge, you should know that with the 360 they eventually released a bunch of "promo"-type consoles that included games and/or custom skins. This is nothing new.

MS/Xbox has to remain standard with certain aspects of their console (Memory size/type, CPU, GPU), but certain aspects can be "updated", like the chipset or the hard drive as these don't factor into gameplay.

And given that this has all happened before with the 360 I'm sure there are those who had the same issues I am currently having. First of all, the changes with the 360 happened a lot longer after the original release, and second they pretty much had to make
changes because of the reoccurring issues they had with the original system. Again, all I am saying is that there should be a system put in place that allows current owners to take advantage of the new custom systems. What I gather you are saying is that we
should just accept the way it is and move on. So by going that route my only option is to buy a skin for my Xbox that would not come close to the quality of a custom Xbox like the halo 5 edition or gears of war. You also mentioned the HDD, you can't tell me
they actually thought that was the idea all along to have a 500GB HDD when their goal from the beginning was to get people to take advantage of the digital titles. They knew they would have to make upgraded versions but they just wanted to push a product out
before a deadline. That's the problem I have with it. So just wanted to get a bug in people's ear so that we could rethink the whole process and come up with a solution for everyone instead of just accepting what they throw at us all the time like you think
    we should.

The digital pricing makes basically no sense when you get right down to it. Whatever the region. Example:

Shadow of Mordor X1 [Base content UK]: £54.99

Shadow of Mordor GOTY X1 [All Content UK]: £49.99

The season pass is priced at £19.99. So if somebody had purchased the standard edition with a view to getting everything in the GOTY... the final cost would be £74.98. That's £24.98 more than the cost of the GOTY. The GOTY doesn't have features missing or
digital content that's somehow different. It's all the same digital content wrapped up in pricing that rails against sense. lol

They should take down the regular edition. Only people buying that will be people making a uninformed purchase. If I was cynical I might think that's the only reason it's still there. =|

  12. Actually I believe NBA was free for a short time. Don't quote me on that though.

The problem I have is that of full price charges for digital downs instead of physical copies which for the most part allow you to play offline. The issue of non physical copies also bring up the issue of hard drive failures and slower initial playtime due
    to full data downloads.

I prefer physicals for A A titles, but smaller independent games are fine for digital only.

  14. Digital copies can be played offline if your licensing is in place.

Here's the thing though. I still play games that are over 20 years old. Can Microsoft assure me that their DRM servers will be online for me to authorise those games after that length of time?

If Microsoft turn off those DRM servers at any point then they should before doing so, release a 'key' file to enable people to play their purchases.

^^ They aren't "DRM servers" though.... they're just servers. If you buy a Xbox 360 game digitally, you can play that game for the next 50 years, provided your 360 actually lasts that long. As you mentioned, the game is tied to your console (as well
as your account), so you're good to go.
