Xbox Live disconnect tied with game?

Say I am playing Overwatch and I lose connection to the Battle.net servers and the game shows a connection error. Assuming the issue had to do with the Battle.net server and not my internet connection, would that disconnect necessarily also affect my connection
to the Xbox Live party?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to troubleshoot if my constant disconnects from Overwatch are caused by my internet connection or by the game itself. The thing is, this doesn't seem to happen with any other game. However, I would think that if I were
just Overwatch, it would not affect Xbox live. However, when these disconnects happen, I also seem to lose connection to my Xbox party chat, and then a few seconds later, it reconnects automatically. Blizzard support isn't very helpful because unfortunately
the connection error I get from the game is very generic.

I've replaced both my router and cable modem recently and connect directly via wire and have NAT status as open. I'm probably going to call my ISP as well, but any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

I've tried hard resetting and updating and the controller is charged. I don't understand why that every time my Xbox disconnects from live that my controller disconnects as well. For starters I don't even know why my live is disconnecting...

Hi, sorry for not replying. I was expecting an email to notify me of a reply to this post. I wanted to circle back and respond to you because I think I resolved my initial issue. What I ended up doing was making sure that both my router mapped a specific
IP to my XBox, and also that my XBox assigned itself that same IP. I noticed that when my issue arose, the IP had switched. This was especially problematic after setting up port-forwarding. I'm not sure why the system reconnects in such a way as to retrieve
a new IP, but specifying the XBox's IP address on both the console and the router appears to fix my problem. In addition, I'm not sure why it only appeared to happen when I played overwatch. To answer your specific question, I did not notice any issues with
party chat while I'm playing Overwatch normally. When my disconnect incidents happened, the symptom was simply: incoming data from the game server stopped (which manifested as game characters no longer moving) and I was also severed from the party chat. Thanks
