xbox live connection problems

I have a wired connection and recently tried to connect to xbox live and got the error 80151901. I restored everything to factory defaults on the configure networks tab and I cleared my memories cache neither one worked. So I went to delete my profile
only and now when I try to download it again it says can't connect. So now I'm stuck with no connection to xbox live and a deleted profile that it won't let me download back. Any solutions to fix either problem would be most appreciated. I'm using a xbox
360 on a wired connection to my laptop that has no trouble connecting to the internet. I'm also not very tech savy so if you do have a solution make sure you explain in plain english and step by step.

I'm having the exact same problem.....this is such f***ing BS. I'm connected to the internet...xbox live is working fine on the rest of the system, and yet I'm stuck in a permanent cycle of "Attention: this game requires a connection to Xbox Live" notice. This is ridiculous.

For maybe a temporarily solution to get you on live so you can download your profile would be:

Push the dashbutton and navigate to Settings, System, choose your network and select Configure settings. click on the field Automatic, Select manual, click done, then click on the field manual and select automatic, click done and go back to the dashboard.

Now try to download your profile again.
