Xbox Live Connection Keeps Dropping

Hi,

I have never used this forum before but I really need help with my connection issue, I am using an external wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 to connect to my internet and I keep disconnecting every 3-5 minutes but when I go to settings to test my
connection it says it is fine. Most of the time I disconnect is when I sign into my Xbox account however sometimes I lose connecting when I'm not even signed in. I have tried re-downloading my profile, clearing my cache and restarting the internet settings
to default on the Xbox however nothing so far has worked. I have turned my modem on/off many times and have moved my Xbox to try to avoid any wireless interference but I still keep disconnecting. This problem is fairly recent and I have had connectivity problems
in the past where I would disconnect constantly however the problem seems to come and go.

Both have been reset and as the case with most people that have this issue it did nothing restoring factory defaults also didn't do anything.. aside from me having to redo the basic settings... either way the disconnects kept happening

Like I said xbox live was running perfectly for 5 years before this, I understand that many / most problems are on the user's end but isn't it even remotely possible something went wrong in some update orso? especially since so many people have the issue?
It's not that I WANT to blame you guys (the XBL service) but I really honestly have no idea what the problem could be on this end as everything is functioning flawlessly.. especially when everything has been reset / restored.

Hey Tessai, sorry to hear about the connection issues (and the disappearing post)! Okay, I see you tried everything in the 'start here' sticky, so I'm guessing both your router and modem have been reset, correct? If so, let's move on to resetting the console's
network settings to factory defaults. You can do so by following these steps: Please let us know if that helps!

• Go to the Settings hub.
• Select System.
• Select Network Settings
• Select your network.
• Choose Configure Network Settings.
• Scroll to the Additional Settings tab.
• Choose Restore to factory defaults.

 

I have exactly the same problem since christmas. Hope to find help here... I will read here cause I don't want to open another topic with the same problem

you know ive had an issue like this almost a month . - i finally was able to log into my modem/router and i returned it to factory default settings. this may have fixed my issue staying connected - as i was getting random disconnects every few minutes. Idk
if this will work for everyone. but its worth a try. Call your ISP if you dont know how to log into your modem/router - ask them to restore factory defaults to the modem/router. hope this might help some peeps.

 

Do you guys have the Technicolor TC8305C from Comcast/Xfinity?

If not, tell me the make and model of your gateway/modem and your ISP.

 

I'm having the same problem and I have that model

 

(Read guys, explains what's going on with this Gateway)

This has been a known issue with this Gateway for more than 2 months now. It's due to a Firewall issue that was caused by an updated by COMCAST. Since the problem is at Comcast's end, Xbox can't do anything about it. So you guys have to replace your modem/gateway.
You can just go to the nearest Comcast store and ask for either a Cisco DPC3939 Gateway (XB3 Wireless Gateway) or the Arris TG862G. It should be free. But try to get the DPC one first, the second... I've heard it has some issues as well be can be fixed with
a simple Firmware update.

- XB1R Zeus:

"Lag and intermittent disconnections may occur, with no permanent fix known at this time. We are currently working with Comcast towards a resolution."

" High Firewall settings on this device can cause a number of errors on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. We have seen "High packet loss" errors on the Xbox One and several potential errors on the 360 including "MTU", "Internet error", "Live connection".
Should any of these errors occur we suggest disabling or setting the firewall to low. "

- XB1R HADES: Update: (12/24/2014): " At this time there is currently no guaranteed fix for these issues and there may not be a fix for some time. This is a firmware issue with the device and not something that Xbox can fix on our end. At this time the
best suggestion we can make would be to replace the gateway with a different brand. Currently the Arris gateways also share similar issues as well. "

Since this is not going to be fixed (it seems), I suggest going to the nearest Comcast Service Center and just switching your model for a different one: (The TG862G or the DPC3939)

- XB1R Athena (Arris TG862G with Xfinity Firmware):

"The Xbox may not be able to connect wirelessly to this device, or suffer from lag and intermittent disconnections. This is due to firewall setting that can cause MTU, Live Connection Error or Can't Access the Internet errors in older versions of this devices
Firmware. To resolve these issues, you will need to update devices Firmware to version 7.6.59c or later. Please see the Firmware Update section for instructions on how to update your devices firmware."

So I would suggest just getting a Arris TG862G and updating the firmware, or try the XB3 Wireless Gateway from comcast. (Cisco DPC3939)

(MAKE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR SSID AND PASSWORD AS WELL, SO IT WON'T BE THE DEFAULT SETTING)

 

i do have the xfinity comcast modem/router - im starting to see i may have to invest in something better. any ideas on the best modem/router combo?

I put some above that you can get for free for Comcast. The ones listed seem to have no issues. They are the Cisco DPC3939 Gateway (XB3) or the Arris TG862G or the TG852G. But probably buying your own Gateway is better...

 

I mean if you are connecting off the router itself. All I did was go into parental controls and added the Xbox as a trusted computer. Due to me believing that a item showing up as unknown on the xfinity might not be good with figuring out what a xbox is.
I had to play with it for a while to find out my Kinect xbox shows up as a unknown device.

So far I had no random disconnects, but still hopping I don't get any more.
