Xbox Live connection issues using Asus router only

Hi guys,

Upon initial setup, i encountered a problem installing the first update. I get the message "There was a problem with the update".

When doing a network test, it sometimes shows "Everything is good", but trying the update again fails. It also sometimes showed "Your Network is Good, but there are some Xbox Service Issues" (I made sure that the xbox live service page showed everything
as up and running fine on Microsoft's side)

I kept trying this, and after a few hours it spontaneously completed the update.

I was then having issues signing in to xbox live. I did the offline update diagnostics, but kept running into the same connection problem. I made sure to correctly forward all necessary ports in my router.

I eventually returned the xbox as I thought it was defective, and got a replacement. But... Same problem.

I'm using an Asus N55uU-C1 router/modem. I tried disabling the firewall and playing around with some other settings, but to no avail.

I eventually found an old Netgear router lying around and hooked it up, and everything worked perfectly. So it seems the Asus router is the problem.

I'm not sure what other settings to play around with on the router, and haven't come across any posts of people having the same issue.

So any advice/help will be greatly appreciated!

Frequent disconnects from Xbox Live, even when router is replaced

Sorry, I made a mistake in the OP. The Thomson RCA is the cable modem, the Asus is the router. I don't seem to have disconnection issues when connected directly to the modem (played for about 2 hours without problems). But two different routers have had
disconnection issues. The Asus router is brand new. It's only Xbox Live that is affected.

 

Anyone having problems connecting to COD:AW multiplayer?

Looks like it was my wireless router maybe? I use a wired connection through my router but I was experiencing 100% packet loss through it according to Xbox multiplayer connection test. I connected through wireless and now it works with only 1% packet loss. Does this mean I need a new router even if the wireless works and wired connection doesn't? Every other game works fine online when my Xbox is wired. Just a CODAW issue.

 

UPDATE:

So a strange thing I've noticed - If I use a VPN on the Asus router, xbox live connects fine. And then I can disconnect the VPN and continue using my xbox with xbox live services (e.g. multiplayer games, party chat) as normal, until I restart the xbox.

 

Throw that Asus like a Frisbee and go get a plain modem only and use with that netgear.....

 

@Bimnog Hahahah, had a good laugh at that. But I'd really like to get to the bottom of this and figure out what it is about this router thats causing these issues.

It's a really great router/modem (other than this issue)

 

there are some routers that just don't work well with xbox one , and some that don't work at all....gateways like the Asus are the WORST imo , a plain modem and a separate router is the best setup....
