Xbox Live Chat Issues

So I just thought I'd copy and paste an email I sent to Major Nelson because I'm just so frustrated right now.

Mr. Hryb,

I’m sure you’re not the right person to contact, but you’re one of the only ways to contact anyone via email, so I apologize.

I’m just absolutely gutted by the state of the xbox one’s live experience, and the chat features in particular. I can’t understand how a console that’s been on the market this long can have the consistent and persistent problems and downtime that Xbox
One does. I get that Microsoft wants to make it a digital hub, and the non-game and non-chat features are cute, but I want to play games with my friends. You know, what I would consider a core function of a game console. As of today, that’s not possible for
me.

I have spent an unknowable amount of time on forums, on youtube and in chats with microsoft’s support to be able to hear and speak to my friends (at the same time) while playing games. To date, I have not been able to do that, despite changing every router
setting I have, opening and closing NAT and countless other “fixes.” When I spend the kind of money on a product as this, it should work without an IT background. Or at the very least the box should come with that as a warning. And to be clear, I run the IT
department for a company with 250 employees.

I’m totally unhappy with the state of xbox one, and while I don’t expect that you’ll be able to solve any of my problems, I just want someone to know that it sucks that it doesn’t work, it sucks that I can’t actually play games with my friends, and it
sucks that I won’t be continuing on with the service or platform because of the experience unless something drastically changes. Like having features work consistently. Or ever.

If I wanted a wild west experience where nothing is predictable day to day, or game to game, I’d just game on a PC.

I appreciate you being the victim of my displeasure. I know it’s not your fault, but I just need someone who is paid by Microsoft to hear my frustration.

Microsoft giving free digital games for users with broken disc drives

I was just told this while chatting with an MS rep about a separate issue: "Every console sent in for repair will have a free 30 day Xbox Live Gold subscription after the repair. However for those with disc unreadable issue, on top of the free 30 day Xbox Live Gold subscription, they'll receive a free game token." They will email the code after the replacement XBox has shipped.

I'm sorry you're having issues and you're displeased with the console.

However, can you explain what is actually wrong? Your title just says chat issues, and the e-mail doesn't go into any more depth about what the problem is.

 

Of course. I wasn't sure if my question would be answered here.

The problem is that I can hear and speak to any random person at times - there are also times that I have to hard restart my console several times in a row to get chat features to work- I am unable to speak to (or hear on occasion) several of my friends.
To be clear, they have never ever heard me speak on the Xbox One. We used to play together all the time on the 360. Whether it's party chat or game chat, it never works.

I've fiddled with NAT settings, Taredo tunneling, and countless other settings, including the ones on the console itself while on support chats with Microsoft. To date nothing has worked.

 

And I have replaced my headset, and random strangers can occasionally hear me.
