Xbox Live - Cannot Access Online/Multiplayer Features

Regardless of the game i'm attempting to play - when i select a online or multiplayer game function i recieve a message that says "your profile does not have the correct permissions to access this feature"

No changes were made to my settings or online preferences.

I've checked my account and xbox live account status, it does not allow me to add another xbox gold live subscription so i'm assuming that it has been renewed and is active.

What settings can i change or set back to default to access online games?

Playing online

Gold membership is required for online gameplay and to access certain features like Netflix, facebook, etc. Free members can connect to Live and send messages and download content, but cannot play online multiplayer.

 

Xbox Live

Are you able to play online multiplayer?

Xbox Live is the Xbox online service that provides multiple online features, like Xbox Marketplace downloads, sending text messages to other Xbox Live members, keeping track and storing your Gamertag achievements, and so on.

Only online multiplayer and party voice chat require you to have a paid Xbox Live GOLD membership.

So if you didn't pay for your Xbox Live Gold membership, you still have access to Xbox Live, only without the Multiplayer and Party chat features.
