Xbox live being tied to app access

Microsoft has done a great job of providing great apps for the Xbox One. However, I do take exception to access to said apps being linked to ones ability to connect to Xbox Live, especially in light of the recent cyber attack, about which there was little
to nothing MS could do. Now granted, I was not able to play online games. Ok, that's fine. I get that. But i was also unable to access my Netflix or Pandora. Why should I not have access to applications that are completely independent of the status of Microsoft
servers? I understand that MS has acquired exclusive rights to Sling TV. That's great. But if I cut the cable and subscribe to Sling, the next time you guys get attacked, you're telling me that I would not be able to play online, watch movies, listen to music,
or watch TV? If you are going promote app usage on the Xbox One, then you need to provide a way to allow customers to continue to enjoy them when your authentication servers are inaccessible. Its just the right thing to do. Thanks.

    :)

    Xbox One App Questions

Recently, MS has been announcing a ton of new apps for X1. Many of these actually have full episodes to watch or air live content like the NFL/ESPN apps. I was wondering if the app access is still tied to additional cable/internet subs or if you can really use these apps and view content without the additional subs. My wife and I recently cut the cable cord again for the second time and are considering an X1 if we can indeed view this content without the need for an approved provider we already have a sub with. I love to hear about everyone's experiences with these apps. It would be interesting to see who is getting all the content and who is not. Knowing which services internet and cable people are using to get access, etc....

I'll probably still wait for a $299 price point before I jump in, but that's only if Live actually gives us access to this stuff without the fine print that usually plagues the 360 app system.

    Xbox Live Confusion?

    Xbox Live is free.

You can make a Gold account, or a Silver account.

The Gold account gives you access to access to play online, along with free monthly games and weekly deals. This has a fee.

The Silver account gives you access to Xbox Live and apps, but you just can't play online or get the free games. This is free.

They can either beef up their WAFs, firewalls, and other network security devices to prevent similar DDoS attacks altogether or simply eliminate the need to log authenticate altogether during an outage via a patch until the attack ends, or limit what needs
Xbox Live. It's not difficult. Just costly one way or the other. But doing nothing is a surefire way to cause both new and current customers to rethink using the Xbox as the media hub for their living rooms that MS wishes it to be.

DDoS attacks are not info attacks, they just overload the servers until they crash.

That's one of the good things about ps4. I was able to watch Netflix and Hulu without being signed into PSN while both services were down.

You miss the point, Hornet. It's not about whether or not there are alternate ways of accessing the applications. The point is that MS markets the Xbox as a multimedia machine as well as a gaming console. If both aspects are taken out of the equation when
they are being attacked, is it not a reasonable request to ask that MS do something to give customers access to functionality for which they paid in the interim? Or at the very least invest into their own infrastructure to proactively prevent such attacks
    in the future? Really?

Jokes on you, Burnin. They ARE connected to a secondary power supply in case of a power outage. Nice try, though.
