XBOX Live account profile issue (complex?)

    Hi,

I have a little problem with my Live account, here's the lowdown..

I got my Live account a few years ago when I got my first 360, I gradually started to let my then young son play on certain games on the 360, but signed in as me so I could keep an eye on things, at the time if you wanted a separate profile, I believe you
had to buy another live sub, this was never really a cost effective option for me.

As the years have gone by, my son has gradually been playing more and more games, and accessing more content where I allow - The problem I have now is I think it is time he had his own profile, he plays much more than me and I really don't think it's fitting
getting game play requests from his school friends who he has added on the rare occasions that I play. For this reason I think it would make sense for him to keep using my profile so he can keep his gamertag and keep those all important achievements, then
I can setup a new profile for me.

The problem with this is my name will remain with the profile as its attached to my microsoft account, also I'm not sure if making a new profile for me will allow for the 'parent' account or demoting the existing live account.

It's all a bit of a mess and the main aim is to keep the achievements, I've done a bit of googling and it looks like it's not possible to transfer these to another profile - Hence I am stuck and not sure what the best course of action is, to summarise:

    • I still have a 360, but also have an XB1 now too
    • One XBOX live account, currently in my name but with my sons gamertag
    • all the achievements are tied to this profile
    • I want to create a separate profile now my son has got older and I don't want to restrict his access as much as when we first started out, it's important he keeps the achievements tied to the profile
    • I'm not to fussed about having my own achievements, but my profile needs to be the 'parent' account
I might be over-thinking this and I feel there will be an easy way to fix it, I just haven't got a clue what to do, surely other people have been or still are in the same situation?

    Help very much appreciated!

    :)

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile

    Xbox LIVE password overview

It is possible to download your Xbox LIVE profile to several different consoles. You may need to do this if you have more than one Xbox 360 console, or you want to play games at a friend's house. In such a situation, you may want to password protect your Xbox LIVE account so that no one else can sign in using your profile.

Set the console to remember your password

Once you have downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to a console, you will be asked if you want the console to remember your password. The Remember Password option is usually off by default. This means that you will be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE.

If you don't want to be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE, select the Remember Password option.

Change the password protection on your profile

You are required to set the Remember Password option after you download your Xbox LIVE profile. However, you can change the password protection on your Xbox LIVE profile any time.

If you don't need a password to sign in:

Sign into your Xbox LIVE profile. After you have entered your Microsoft account password, select the Remember Password option.

If you choose the Remember Password option, you will not be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

If you need a password to sign in:

You can restrict access to your Xbox LIVE profile on any console using your Microsoft account password.

    Steps to follow

    1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

    2) Under Settings, select Account and then Account Security

    3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

    4) Select Require Password Here

You will be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile remotely

If you downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to another console and it is not password protected, or someone has compromised your password, you can change the password from a remote location so that no one else can access your profile.

    Change your Microsoft account

    1) Sign into accounts.live.com using your Microsoft account.

    2) Go to Account Information and, next to Password, click Change.

You can also use your console to change your Microsoft account password.

Note: If the Xbox LIVE profile you downloaded does not require a password to sign in (You selected the Remember Password option), you will not be able to restrict someone from signing into your Xbox profile even if you change your Microsoft account password.

You can remove your Microsoft account password so that other people cannot access your Xbox profile on other consoles. This will ensure that a password is required before signing into your Xbox profile.

Remotely set a profile password from a computer:

    1) Sign into your Xbox LIVE account.

    2) Under Settings, select Account, and then Account Security

    3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

    4) Select On All Other Consoles.

Once you have done this, a password will be required to sign into your Xbox LIVE profile on all other consoles.

XBOX Live account profile issue (complex?)

You'd need to contact support for assistance with your profile. You can call 1-800-4my-xbox (1-800-469-9269) if you're in the US/Canada or support.xbox.com/contact-us.

There's no need to contact support about this. It's a simple enough issue.

First off you'll probably want to change the email address for the account. You can do this at the link below.

    support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

That will free up your email for a new gamertag for yourself.

Now, the issue here is that you want to keep the new tag as the Parent account. This could be difficult if the account your son is using has an age that would make it an adult account. The age cannot be changed at all. However, once you create your account
you could try adding his as a child on yours. From there you should still be able to restrict access to what he can and cannot do.

My first name is valid for Xbox live on the 360

I have the same issue, the reason I want to create it through 360 is because I have an account there with a lot of gamerscore that I want to connect to Xbox live. If I create it through Xbox.com, there is no way to then transfer achievements. Surely there must be a way to still connect offline accounts to Xbox Live, seeing as Xbox 360 still has Live up and it's marketplace up etc...

Is there anyway we can report this issue and send it up the chain of command so they can fix it? Or, is there some other manner to connect an offline account to Xbox live? Either would work. If it was accidentally broken by Microsoft, then probably the fix shouldn't be too complex, if we can let them know about the issue.

Can't Login to Amazon Instant Video

I've run into this same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app multiple times. I tried logging into the Amazon app at least two dozen times. I tried signing in under different Xbox Live accounts (mine and my wife's). Nothing worked.

On a hunch that the characters in my Amazon password might be contributing to the problem (I use a high-character, alpha-numeric password with varied case and complex symbols), I temporarily switched my password to something simple, tried logging into the
app - and it worked. (I then changed the password back to something more complex.)

No idea what the issue was, but I suspect it has something to do with how complex, case-sensitive symbols are translated by the Xbox entry pad. Something may have been registering as one thing but displaying as another. Just a theory. But the app now works.

Suggestion for Xbox Live: Allow signing in to partner accounts via QR code or some other method that isn't a tedious as entering passwords using a game controller.
