Xbox live account email

Hi,

So this might get a bit complicated, so I’ve got a xbox account that I’ve had for a very long time but it’s using my dad’s email and I want to use my email. I’m worried that if I use an alias and make my email primary and delete the old email, that’s my
dad’s email, will it delete the old email completly. My dad still uses his email for work and I don’t want to muck any thing up.

Have you got this resolved? My sister just got an Android and is having a similar issue. We wrote on the tech support forums and are just waiting for a response. I guess I'll give Live a call tomorrow if I can't figure it out soon. We both use my sister's free account so we are having the same problem. So frustrating.

I've had a live account for years now but when I set it up I used my gmail email. I also have an local free profile for my wife that I set it up using my Live.com email account. My wife's account doesn't have a Live gold pass so it's just a free local account. Recently I signed up for a xbox Live Music pass about a month ago and I've been enjoying it so far (gmail account)....so to the Issue.
I just got a new Windows phone. All sync'd up and working with my live email account. My music pass though is not showing up for my Live account so I can't sync up my playlist and such. There is also no option to "log in" to your music pass as it uses the account the phone is already setup with which is my Live account.

So how do I switch my music pass to be associated to my Live account? I've been trying for hours to just delete my Wife's free profile account so I can remove my Live email association but I can't figure out how. I do know that I'll have to change my XboxLive account name which is cool with me. But when I try to switch my account over it says My email that I want to use is already in used by a Xbox profile (Yeah, my wifes').

Thanks for your post, the concern is correct, if the old email that your Dad uses is a first party Microsoft email it can be deleted if removed from the account. I recommend just leaving the old email as a secondary alias which should allow use of it as
an independent e-mail address. For more information please check out this article on aliases:

thanks for the reply, just want to know, my email is already a microsoft account, will this affect the chances of me making my email an alias? Also, if I make my email the primory alias, will this affect my dad’s way of logging into his microsoft account?

Thanks for your response, if your email is already associated with a Microsoft Account, you must create a new email so it may take place as the primary alias on the desired account.

If the email you want to use as your primary alias is currently being used on another Microsoft account, then it cannot be used. The only way you can use it is if you free it up as the primary alias from the account it's being used for and that would require
you to create a new email. Either way, you may end up having to create another email anyway if you want to disassociate your dads email as the primary alias from the account that you use so that you can still have a primary alias to choose from because an
account needs at least one alias.

As mentioned earlier keep in mind if a Microsoft first party email is removed from an account as an alias, then the email itself will be not be able to be added as an alias going forward. Only outlook can be used again but only after 30 days.

Your dad may be affected in logging into his Microsoft account because the account you are using is technically his and all you will be doing is making his email a secondary email or a backup. You can make it so that you can also sign in using your Dad's
email, but essentially you will still be sharing the same account, just the emails were switched around from the primary and secondary.

Pretty much all the information you need is on the link provided earlier, but I wanted to explain it a little further.

Hey Oliver thanks for keeping us in the loop!

If there is a new email made and made primary (if the old email is Hotmail it will be deleted) the old one would still be a stand alone email so that would work fine. For the console all that would change would be the sign in would be the new email an password.

account which has this stated within the page:

To remove the email address you no longer use to sign in to your account, select
Remove next to that alias on the Manage your account aliases page, and then follow the instructions provided.

Important Do not remove this email address if you still want to use it to send and receive email messages.

There should be an opportunity to add a new email and set as the primary, where there would be no need to remove the email alias your dad claims.

sorry if I’m still a bit hessident about this but I belive my dad’s email is a hotmail account, so if I make a new email and make that the primory alias will my dad’s hotmail account, which hes still using, be automaticly deleted even if it’s a secondary
alias? Also, will my dad still be able to use his email to sign into his microsoft account even if it’s not the primory alias?

Sorry if I’m repeating myself, again I’m making sure I cover everything so I don’t mess up my dad’s email.

Thanks for reaching out! If you change the primary alias the email that was ther will not be active since it will be removed from the account.

Note: If you choose to remove an alias that uses a Microsoft domain such as @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, or @live.com, that alias will be completely deleted and will not be available to sign in to any Microsoft
services.
