Xbox just keeps spinning the external HDDs when in Quick start mode.

I don't understand why it needs to keep doing that constantly, I like the ability to quickly turn on my console, but it isn't worth it because it just turns my externals on every 30 seconds or so. Please fix this Microsoft!

External HDD keeps turning on while in the rest mode.

I want to be able to say "Xbox On" and have the console turn on super fast, but the console in this rest mode just keeps turning the external HDD on even when I turn the updates option off. The console isn't doing anything, it just keeps triggering the external
HDD every 30 seconds or so. This needs to be fixed as when I plug it into the PS4 and enter rest mode, it keeps this drive off, my PC does the same thing in it's hibernation mode and so does anything else but the Xbox One.

Please fix this issue.

External HDD problem

Hi all, just wondering if other people have heard or having the same problem but, my external hard drive won't spin down. Even when the Xbox is off it just keeps spinning. I was thinking maybe it's something to do with the instant on mode, what do you think?

There is an option in the settings, can't remember where to get the xbox to power down an external HDD when the console is of. I think it only works with HDD that don't have an external power supply.

If it is on with one with external power supply then I would say something is wrong as mine doesn't spin up while the Xbox is off unless it's downloading an update for a game.

I have and external hdd desktop with external power supply and that occur to me too. it's on when the xbox is in sleep mode but last I check and it was downloading some update games. usually y unplug the external power supply.

This is an issue with the firmware in some external HDD's. When this feature was first introduced, MSFT was made aware of this and the consensus was that the manufacture needed to address this with a firmware update. To my knowledge, none have.

I have a few WD 2TB drives that remain on even when the console is in Energy Saving mode. The only option is to unplug them from the console.

Yes that seems like a possibility, i will try it and post what the results are.

On a side note, every time i turn my xbox one off, the external hdd spins down aswell. But then after a few seconds, the external disk spins up again. Only to spin down, and as soon as it has done that, it spins back up again. And so on so on like 8-12 times
before it finally spins down and stays in that state.

Also i have noticed that the external hdd spins up at random times, when the XBO is turned off. So i have assumed that the XBO did have control over it, even when in low power mode.

Especially since my external hdd uses its own power supply (which rules out not enough power from the XBO in low power mode to run it.)

But as mentioned above, i will try it and post the results

Thanks for the quick reply, am I right in interpreting your answer as not everyone with an xbox and an external hdd is experiencing this issue? So that if I get another HDD it might work as I want without constantly spinning up?
