Xbox is unresponsive when using instant-on

My issue is every time I use the instant-on feature, when i turn my xbox on it will turn on, but no apps or games will open. The console simply sits at the main xbox screen, i can select options and can move the cursor around, but when i select and
go to open an app or game, it just sits there and does nothing,

A Hard reset will correct the error but it does not fix the issue as it continually returns.



Turning on power save is a patch not a solution I can live with.



What is bean down with this problem? what is the solution to this problem?

I've always had to use the Hard Off. Even if the system responded, games would often repeatedly fail to load, also oddly it takes my PC down with it often when powering down. Two days ago my powersupply died, and now I'm forced to replace it. I think we
can safely assume there is a definite software issue. Not only that but in reading through many postings PSU failure rates are quite high.

There is no answer here, just additional information that may or may not prove relative to the situation.

Note: My PC and my ONE share the same monitor. I discovered powering off the monitor first, then hard shuttin down the ONE pretty much eliminated the problem of powering the ONE down killing the OS 8.1 Pro 64bit install on my PC, and eliminated any responsiveness
issues the console frequently exhibited. However, if as hinted by some that hard shutdown seems to be harmful to the PSU it may well have cost me my power supply. I have no idea yet if there was any harm to the console.

I believe I'm having the same problem. Mine powers on into TV mode and WILL NOT go to the home screen for a few minutes. All my buttons work. I can hold down the home button and the power menu comes up. Double tap the home button and the snap menu comes
up. But single press doesn't do anything. It take maybe two minutes for like the system to catch up to whatever and then it'll let me go to my home screen.

 

There is no solution at the moment, unless as you say you switch to power save which is not a fix. Just got to wait until MS fix it.

I will say in the latest preview build it does seems to have improved slightly for me.

 

@Goooner1 are you about the April Preview build or the March?

Because the March public release has made my system worse.

As with @McKleiven my Day One console has been really flaky in starting and closing for the last few months, but particularly so after the March update install.

I have to reset my console (hold my Xbox button in for 10-15sec), then restart the console. My Kinect drops connectivity notifying me "Kinect is unplugged", but more frustrating is every day I have to do a complete reset otherwise my console either does
not shutdown with voice (even when Kinect is activated), or games or apps etc just will not open and run. I either get the front page up (i.e. Destiny graphic, or Settings cog, or the TV app icon), and nothing else happens.

Extremely frustrating, and to top it off I've been fortunate to get onto beta trials of many OSs and apps, and also for Xbox 360, but I've absolutely had no joy getting onto the Preview program for Xbox One even though I've had requests for inviting me sent
on my behalf a few times. I would love to work with MS to solve these issues but I cannot seem to get onto this Preview Program for Xbox One!

Unfortunately someone started talking about legal action and they locked the thread which sucks for those of us just wanting a solution.

Goooner1 on that thread is on the Preview program and completed a survey asking specific questions about this issue. So it would seem they are actively investigating, it would just be nice to get solid clarification from MS that it is a known bug and being
worked on.

 

Since I've been on the preview, which is just under two weeks now, I think, I've had two new builds, the latest one in the earlier hours of yesterday morning.

Something has definitely changed, I've now gone pretty much a week not having to hard reset using Instant On, before it was at least once a day, sometimes several times per day. Probably jinxed it now saying that

The survey was asking stuff luck, how often did it happen, do I have an external drive, is my net connection stable.

It just amazes me they don't just say publicly that they are aware of the problem and working to fix it, it'd save a hell of a lot of peed off people and threats of lawsuits.

 

Thanks for the update Goooner1! Fingers crossed they're on to something. I look forward to (hopefully) an April s/w update.

 

Had a moment yesterday when I thought it was playing up again, something was taking what seemed like too long to load, thought I was going to need a hard reset, when over put my finger on the power button and then it loaded as normal.

No idea whether touching the power button affected anything or if it was just a coincidence, which I suspect it was. That minor issue aside, I've now gone a week without a reset.

So fingers crossed that it's finally fixed. Hey, I could even live with a reset once a week, but so far so good.

Yeah thanks @Goooner1 - appreciate you filling us in to what's been going on. Sounds promising. I've been trying to get onto this dang Preview Program so I can specifically report on this problem and other suggestions, but after months and a few friends
shooting a request every now and then still been unsuccessful getting in.

I understand MS's view on not making public that there is a problem because it sounds like it may be a batch of systems and not completely widespread. The whole idea and concept of the Preview program is a fantastic way of getting to the problems efficiently.

I look forward to the public release of the April patch when it comes out, with some optimism

I have been having this problem also since the March update, did everything I could to fix it full reset, factory reset and even energy saving, it was fine earlier today but became unresponsive I could move around on the home screen however nothing would
open though, now it cant even load up just stuck on the Xbox one loading screen with three dots for 15+ minutes.

Just hope the April Patch is something, would be better than nothing otherwise its just an expensive paperweight.

 

I just installed the April update and i've reactivated Instant On, I'll report back if I have the same issues.

 

So far so good! I've been using Instant On successfully, opening lots of apps and games and not closing them, haven't needed to do a Power Cycle at all.
