Yep, this is a known issue with Instant On. The February update has not fixed it at all. I too have been having to Hard Reset the console, every day for 3 months, anytime I use the Instant On feature.

As for the crashing and freezing, it is related. For example, every time it happens to me and I try to go to any app, the screen will go black as if trying to load the app and hang there. The longest I have waited is 20mins. Hard resetting to clear the cache
    fixes it.

The other issue when switching the Unit on, is the account will try to sign in and fail with an error code. Once you Hard Reset this is again fixed. The problem is these only occur if you have Instant On enabled.

Every time I have spoken to Xbox, they want to send out a replacement unit. When I talk to them again the next day, they tell me that I refused any solution that they offered. The problem is that it is not a Hardware issue and by not accepting there offer
for a replacement, I thought I would be saving them money. As it is clearly the OS on the device causing this.

I have to say, that I am getting very frustrated with Xbox support and Microsoft in general. When you ask them for the number for anyone who deals with Consumer Complaints (every company in Australia by law has to have this department) the phone goes silent,
they have no clue what our laws means.

Although I have only been putting up with this issue for 3 months, it is enough for me to NOT recommend the system to anyone, when questioned why they go thanks for the warning I guess that makes my decision to purchase a Sony machine all the more easier.

Problem is that all the support, community managers are not given the power to report these things correctly. As someone who has worked in the I.T industry, I can speculate that the issues with the Instant On and forced Hard Resets is to do with some bug
in the OS itself, this is very evident. But it has to do with the checking for updates back to Xbox core services or something, because if it doesn't make that call it works fine with no issues.

Personally I am sick of Microsoft and the attitude they have in not fixing anything, the Original Xbox and the 360 I never had issues like this in 13 years of gaming. In 2 days of having the Xbox I have had more issues than my 30 years of gaming put together
    with consoles.

It is time Xbox picked their game up, fix these issues once and for all. Especially when said issues also stop you from buying games, I would have thought it would be fixed quick smart because they are not getting potential sales and yet they just don't
    care.

    Totally agree CyberAngel.

I had an original xbox, I had a 360 from day 1, had a red ring of death failure thing with my 360, which MS replaced within a week, that aside I don't think I had any issues with it at all and I had it from launch up until October last year when I bought
    a One.

When I got my One, Instant On worked great, exactly as advertised, but since the November update it's stopped working, MS have obviously broken something with the update, it's not a hardware issue, there's no point in returning it for another one.

The way MS are handling this is an absolute disgrace. They're just burying their heads in the sand and hoping we all go away, which is the worst part of the whole issue, the way they are completely ignoring all the numerous threads from people with this
    exact same issue.

When I first got my One, I was recommending it to everyone, now I recommend everyone still well clear until the fix whatever they broke and Instant On works as advertised.

Goooner1, you're not wrong my friend.

I wonder what support actually do on the phone sometimes, I got point blank told my issue would be escalated and that someone would call me back. So far no-one has, when I spoke to them today, here is what I got told.

We have closed the ticket because you refused our solution.

I was like WTF, you haven't even rung me and you have done what.

I had been having sa me issues with my son's xbox one. First year edition. After hours on the phone with support we resolved issue together. The guy helping me was great! Although may not work for all systems due to manufacture dates. If you skip a
step it will not work. Like I said it was a collaborative effort with support. I am no longer under warranty and did not want to spend 115.

Good luck guys and gals. If I can help only 1 I would be happy.

STEP 1: POWER UNIT DOWN. LOOK AT POWER BRICK. ORANGE LIGHT FLASH ONCE. WAIT TILL ORANGE GOES SOLID. UNPLUG FROM WALL AND WAIT 15 MINUTES! !! VERY IMPORTANT!!! JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!! HAS TO BE 15 MINUTES!!!!!

STEP 2: Factory reset. ( I know it sucks, you gotta re download everything! But sometimes those downloads have corrupt files and by deleting and re downloading may speed up gameplay!

STEP 3: Put your system into power saving. There by turning off instant on.

Step 4: Clear persistent storage. This file is under Blu Ray and disc

    Step 5: clear Mac address.

Step 6: perform hard reset again. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS WAIT TILL POWER brick LIGHT IS SOLID ORANGE BEFORE UNPLUGGING. after unplugging plug right back in and turn on system.

Please reply if issue was resolved so moderators or someone can forward to support.

    Ty and good luck

So let me get this straight, you did all that, but didn't turn back on Instant On? You're on Power Save if I read that right?

In which case you could've saved yourself a whole lot of time and effort and just switched on Power Save in the first place, without doing the rest.

Instant On is the problem, if you use Power Save there's no issue.

It's the issue combined! Instant on and persistent storage. Mac address just helps online gameplay flow

Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on.

The issue is precisely instant on. And Microsoft need to fix it. Turing on power save is a patch not a solution. You cannot use 'xbox on', auto updates or have your console on within seconds with power save. It's really starting to bug me when I speak to
MS support. They get me to do the same thing each time and ask me to restart and say is it fixed? Of course it's fixed for that restart - but it won't be in several days and the problem re occurs. It would be amazing for an MS rep to actually reply to this
to admit their is a known problem and a firmware update is in the works, but they can't even do that!

Strange isn't it? They manage to pop up where people post to old threads and advise them to start an new thread of their own to get proper help, yet persistently ignore all the other threads like this one, no matter how many pages or posts they run to!

Exactly how are you supposed to get an official response around here?

Maybe we should all post about this issue on the end of a load of old completely unrelated threads and see what happens Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on. :)

It's very ironic that I have had no issues since performing troubleshooting and now today I get error code

  11. I believe I'm having the same problem. Mine powers on into TV mode and WILL NOT go to the home screen for a few minutes. All my buttons work. I can hold down the home button and the power menu comes up. Double tap the home button and the snap menu comes
up. But single press doesn't do anything. It take maybe two minutes for like the system to catch up to whatever and then it'll let me go to my home screen.

I attempted going through Twitter support @XboxSupport to see if I could get any more joy than chat support. They were a bit more helpful in recommending things to try (found out that holding L + R triggers and pressing Y resets the Dashboard). However ultimately
they would not acknowledge that this is an OS issue. I questioned this and their response was that they 'could not speculate on this'. They didn't even acknowledge if it was a known issue or an issue being investigated. Their one bit of advice i didn't follow
was delete & re-install a game or app. I told them that I can't access Settings when the problem occurs so how would I go about deleting and re-installing Settings? They didn't seem to get that it is EVERY game and app that won't start. This mornings presentation
of the fault I got the error message 'For some reason Settings has taken too long to start. (0x8027025a)'.

My last message to Twitter support I said exasperatedly 'I'm thinking of just using Energy Save mode to save myself the trouble' to which they replied 'Understood! Please let us know if you need further assistance after that. Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on. :)'.

Looks like they were happy to be rid of me.

Had an invite turn up out of the blue last week for the preview program, I've never actually looked for one, so no idea why I got it, maybe it's to do with all my complaining on here about this bug?

Anyway, I was doing one of the survey things that are part of it, and one of the questions was asking did I have problems with my console being unresponsive when first turned on, did I get splash screens, how often does it happen, has it got any better or
worse since this build, am I using Power Save or Instant On?

So it looks like MS are actually aware of the issue and are looking into it.

What gets me is why I had to get on the preview program to actually find this out? Why not just put a sticky up on here so everyone knows it's being looked into? It'd certainly save a lot of frustration in all these threads.
