Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on.

I am also experiencing this problem and the Feb update has not resolved it. After 1-2 days I have to do a power cycle otherwise no games or apps will load. The game or app splash screen will appear, but it just sits there doing nothing. No loading animation
or anything. If I press the Xbox button to return to the dashboard and then press the menu button there is not even an option quit the app. It looks like it hasn't even started. Very frustrating that using Instant On has this bug. Can MS please confirm if
this is a known issue? Since we have just received the Feb update I fear that this bug won't be fixed for a while. I really want to stay with Instant On, I love it, but having to do a power cycle every few days is frustrating.

    :)

Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on.

I've always had to use the Hard Off. Even if the system responded, games would often repeatedly fail to load, also oddly it takes my PC down with it often when powering down. Two days ago my powersupply died, and now I'm forced to replace it. I think we
can safely assume there is a definite software issue. Not only that but in reading through many postings PSU failure rates are quite high.

There is no answer here, just additional information that may or may not prove relative to the situation.

Note: My PC and my ONE share the same monitor. I discovered powering off the monitor first, then hard shuttin down the ONE pretty much eliminated the problem of powering the ONE down killing the OS 8.1 Pro 64bit install on my PC, and eliminated any responsiveness
issues the console frequently exhibited. However, if as hinted by some that hard shutdown seems to be harmful to the PSU it may well have cost me my power supply. I have no idea yet if there was any harm to the console.

I am having the exact same issue. You can browse left or right and kinnect hears you okay but won't launch anything you just get the tile press animation and sound. The only things that work are the turn off menu, the menus on each tile (but anything off
these menus don't) and you can sign yourself out. If you try to sign in you get a problem 0x80a30204

Same problems as OP has stated. Very frustrating - makes instant on feature completely useless. Mine started a week ago for no apparent reason. Will use energy saving mode from now on as a work around but that is hardly a solution. Nothing quite like resuming
from standby and nothing works - just tile press animations ! Come on MS fix this already.

this all sounds very similar to my issues, the only way to fix this for my console is unplug it then back on again and it works for a little while but the problem is daily. I have other problems with how it works but it all seems a generic problem, is it
software issues or possibly a manufacturing batch issue with a iffy piece of hardware . I ask about the hardware side as I have replaced mine that I got at christmas but was wondering about batch issues .

The most frustrating part of all this is the fact that it's gone on for three months now and still Microsoft don't even acknowledge the problem, let alone fix it.

I enabled Instant On again after the February update. It worked for about 5 boots and then the console started locking up on startup. I won't disable it just yet and see if it happens again.

I contacted MS Support and was told to do the same steps:

    a) Clear persistent storage 3 times (why 3? Doesn't triggering it once do it?) and

    b) Clear the MAC address.

The problem returned a few days later and is again consistently occurring every couple of days.

I questioned the clearing of the MAC address, as this problem would seem to be nothing to do with the network, it is the OS simply not starting the apps/games. My support person said this it gives you a Stronger network connection (whatever that means) and
if the problem happens again try disconnecting the network cable and see if it helps. Well I did and it didn't. The problem still persisted with the network disconnected.

This is clearly a software issue MS, please fix!

I contacted MS chat support again to report that the issue was not resolved after the above steps advised by them. This support person is now telling me that having to do a power cycle every few days is normal.

    This is the best bit:

'This is not quite consider [sic] as an issue since it was resolved by clearing the system cache and the team will just improve the console.'

    and

'This steps were provided to resolve the issue and the steps worked, that is the resolution for the issue.'

So apparently we're all experiencing a non-issue, since a Power Cycle fixes it. I am flabbergasted.

If that's the official Microsoft response that's a disgrace quite frankly. Especially as it was working fine until one of their updates broke it.

So it appears that having to hard reset 9 times out of 10 is exactly how Instant On is supposed to function then? If that's working, I'd hate to see what they consider broken. Yes it works if you do a hard reset, but if you have to do it virtually every
time, therefore losing all the benefits off Instant On, like automatic downloads game resuming etc...what is the point of having Instant On Mode at all?

Why not just come right out and say our console is crap, go buy a PS4 instead!

  12. I've heard there are several different 'forms' of this instant on 'bug'. My console switches to energy saver mode when set to instant on. Power light on brick goes from white to orange. Then, the console won't even turn on with the controller... I have to
use the power button on the console.

Once it boots, it works fine (oh and what seems even more stupid is that the instant on feature is still turned on when I check settings). I've posted in multiple threads about this issue, I've had it for months. 1 thread had multiple posts about the exact
problem I have. It was completely ignored.

I tried posting in another thread that had very similar issues to this... and was told that it sounded like I had an "energy problem unrelated to firmware". That's all I was told, no links to check another thread, no tips on what (if anything) to do about
it, not even an acknowledgement if it's a known issue.

To add an [almost] laughable aspect to it, I was told that my post was in the wrong thread, since the issue my console has wasn't like the one being addressed in the thread I posted in. Well... apparently posting in the right thread got me (and several others) nothing
    but ignored.

So now, my Xbox sits (like a lump) in energy saver mode, because it's the only mode that functions the way it should.

Prior to this issue, when people asked me if I liked my Xbox and if I recommended it, my response was 'Yes. Sure it has some minor bugs, but nothing that's majorly annoying or hinders the way it functions.' I can't say that anymore. One of it's most appealing
features is useless. I still like my Xbox... but there's no way I will recommend it to others now, without telling them that one of the best features may or may not work the way it is supposed to... if at all.

I am having the same issue. Started for me maybe a month ago. It might have been November. But I will go maybe 3-5 days working all good and boom there it is. I haven't exactly noticed, but I think when I shut off the xbox while in game the error occurs.
For instance, if I play Destiny and then go to home without quiting the game its like the game stays on while the xbox is in standby and when i turn the xbox one it goes to home screen and almost like it lags out. I bet 1 of 2 things. I bet if you quit
all your apps and games out when you shut off this issue doesn't occur, or if you use it offline it wouldn't occur. I think its like a lag out with xbox live deal.

  15. ^No. Not in my case. Many of my games are disc based. In essence, you have to 'quit' the game if you remove the disc... which is what I always do when I'm done playing a game. Not to mention I quit all my digital games when I'm done playing them as well.
I even quit all apps before I play games. I still have the same problem.
