Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on.

Up till recently I've always used the full power-down mode. No issues with that.

I recently changed to instant-on. Now, about 1 in every 5 times I turn the machine on, after the dash appears, it does not respond to any inputs, either from my logitech remote or from the xbox controllers, or from kinect voice control. All appears as normal
on the dash though, showing my recent apps etc.

The only way to fix is to hold down the power button on the console to do a hard-off and reboot.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    :)

I believe I'm having the same problem. Mine powers on into TV mode and WILL NOT go to the home screen for a few minutes. All my buttons work. I can hold down the home button and the power menu comes up. Double tap the home button and the snap menu comes
up. But single press doesn't do anything. It take maybe two minutes for like the system to catch up to whatever and then it'll let me go to my home screen.

It's the issue combined! Instant on and persistent storage. Mac address just helps online gameplay flow

I rarely have to do this but it must be done every once in a while. Try heading to Settings>Disc & Blu Ray then click Clear Persistent Storage before doing the power cycle.

Hopefully that will prevent the need to power cycle as often.

I tried the suggestion of clearing persistent storage, but it hasn't helped. Some more info on the issue - when the XboxOne powers up but fails to respond to commands, the Xbox logo on the console is only half as bright as normal and the logo on the Kinect
flashes on and off (and when it's on, it's also dim like the one on the console). Every now and then it briefly says "Kinect is unplugged".... Xbox is unresponsive sometimes when using instant-on. But when I do a hard reboot, it works fine, so it's not a problem with the cable.

Anyone? This is almost every time now. I've had to turn it back to energy save mode.

I am having the exact same issue. You can browse left or right and kinnect hears you okay but won't launch anything you just get the tile press animation and sound. The only things that work are the turn off menu, the menus on each tile (but anything off
these menus don't) and you can sign yourself out. If you try to sign in you get a problem 0x80a30204

I had this issue for a couple of weeks starting coincidentally when Halo MCC launched, likely unrelated. It went away after a while, but now my fan is making a chirping noise. I also noticed that after numerous hard resets, my custom background disappeared,
which was an achievement image. Since then no freeze ups.

    Dear all,

I have always used the instant mode since the 11/22 but now since one month I have to push the console button to switch on my XboxOne.

As said Charlesr, one in every time all the command don't respond: neither my voice neither the pad.

Have you tried to unplug the console and wait for 1 minute, do you think it will work?

    Thank you for your answer!!

I have experienced all the issues described in this thread.

For the longest time, I had the issue where I'd turn on my console (while in instant on) only to find that none of the apps would open. I'd hold down the power button for a cold shutdown, boot back up, and the problem would be temporarily fixed... but only
    for a little while.

When they released the Dec. 2 update, that issue seemed to stop... but then a new issue started.

Now it can't stay in "instant on" mode for more than a day or 2. Basically after a while, the instant on function stops working. If it's in instant on mode, when it's "off" (or basically in standby mode) the light on the power brick should be white...
and for the most part it is... but after a while it turns to orange on its own without being touched or used or unplugged. Then, as the light would indicate, the instant on function won't work, and booting it up is like a cold restart. It happens WAY too
often for this to be normal.

I know it's not losing power... I've had the same set up for the past 7 months and I've never had this problem... furthermore, this new issue happened at EXACTLY the same time that the previous one seemed to be fixed. I suppose it COULD be a coincidence,
    but that seems unlikely.

If anyone else is experiencing the "instant on" failure, let me know. Message me on XBL etc.

Yeah, I tried unplugging the PSU (and kinect) and waiting and plugging the power back in without kinect and going through the kinect check procedure - all fine. No joy.

MikeJamesB2TG, I had that issue happen to me the other day for the first time. My xbox is acting up anyway on a hardware level (Fan is chirping) and figured it was a result of that, but now that you are reporting this issue, it sounds like a software problem.

Having the same issue -- sometimes when i boot up, I can't do anything on the home screen with the controller, or the xbox one remote. If I start an app or game via Kinect, everything works within the context of that game/app, but if I hit the home button
or go home via Kinect, I'm still unable to do anything on the home screen. A recycle fixes it, but it is definitely frustrating.

I should add, that due to the fan issue I'm having I'm starting to wonder how damaging the hard reset really is on the console. This has been asked before by other users on this forum with no response as far as I know, but after that 2 week run I had when
this issue first started where I was forced to hard reset every 2nd day or so, my console fan started to make the annoying chirping noise noted below. So now I'm left to deal with either getting my console repaired and being without it for a considerable
length of time or get the advanced exchange refurb. Neither option sounds good to me and those now out of warranty are out roughly $120 for something that could've possibly been avoidable.

I have the exact same issue.

It has been happening to me for the past few months. I have always used instant on. When I turn it on every few days or every second day the xbox loads up but no inputs work at all I can select apps but I cannot open them. A hard reset fixes the issue for
another day or Two. I spoke with xbox support they said it was a glitch and to clear my persistent storage and clear my mac cache I did both and it fixed it for a bit. I have also turned my console off for 10 mins with the power cord out with no luck.

I have read somewhere that a dodgy home router can cause this. So I'm gonna try swapping my router next week and try to fix it. In the meantime I'm turning instant on off as the hard reset can't be good for the console. I'm also going to try a factory reset
    of the console too.
