Xbox Interface performance hit when using "Instant On"

Being a part of the preview program, I find it annoying to experience the frequent system updates, since it takes a good 5-10 minutes (or so) to install the update, not including download time, I opted to finally try Instant On, so that I wouldn't have to
worry about that anymore. This, after a couple days, started to cause severe issues. I found that suddenly videos were stuttering while watching them (brief pause every second or two), but that issue is already being investigated apparently. My main issue
came after this video stuttering. When exiting the app the interface appeared sluggish, which I kind of figured was the normal slowness I see in the interface every now and then. I chose to "turn off" the xbox and turn it back on to see if that fixed the video
issue. From this point it only got worse.

The ENTIRE interface now was on a severe lag, where any action took at least 10-15 seconds to take place, and I could do almost nothing. I wrestled with the interface long enough to turn off "Instant On" and that seemed to at least be a workaround for the
issue. It felt like a memory leak, and the Instant On was keeping it from clearing the system when turned off. Now when I experience the video issue, rebooting the Xbox does the trick for at least another hour or two.

This issue only really appears on lazy weekend days when I am hanging out indoors watching videos.

I know the interface was a little sluggish before the overhaul, but this new one has been a huge disappointment.. I was really looking forward to it, but have had so many problems since it updated.

This also all completely negates the usefulness of Instant On, to the point that I CAN'T activate it without performance issues.

It's a known issue that Instant On causes the system to become unstable, this is because it doesn't clear the cache or close backgrounds applications as your system is on standby 24/7. Also a regular reboot doesn't solve it as when you're on Instant-on your
console goes into sleep mode instead of actually shutting down. You would have to powercycle it instead

Another thing you could do while on instant on is actually quitting the applications which you've opened after you're done using them

If you don't want the updates anymore for the preview program you can choose to opt-out.

You can opt-out of the preview program by opening the "preview app" and going to "registration" from there you can change your status by selecting "Change". In the following menu you can then choose to remove yourself from the program.

This is however not instant, you won't receive any updates from the preview anymore but you'll stay on the current version until there's a newer public release.

 

i'll have to try turning off instant on, ever since the NXOE all my videos have been stuttering pausing every 1 second or so on all video apps other than netflix. i'll post back what i find out tonight.

 

i tried turning off instant on, doing a full shutdown, but the hitching in video apps remains. I thought i had tried this before but hadn't with some of the newer releases. Video playback still "pauses" or hitches frequently during motion.
