Xbox in game chat has never worked and Microsoft have never admitted it!

I had an Xbox One S for more than a year and in game chat never worked. Now and again I would hear one person but they could not hear anyone. My microphone would not work even though every single setting that was repeated over and over again by Microsoft Answers and copied and pasted into other websites by annoying people were all correct and as they should be but in game chat still DID NOT WORK.

I found that if I unplugged the 3.5mm audio plug from the controller and plugged it back in again then my microphone would work and people would hear me but I could not hear them and it only lasted for that session because when I logged in again I was back where I started.

I thought therefore that the controller was defective and therefore returned it to Microsoft who very kindly replaced it with a new one. They did not offer any explanation nor even did they acknowledge there was an issue. I had exactly the same problem with the new replacement.

I now have a shiny new Xbox Series S and guess what? The same problem exists and again if I pull the 3.5mm audio plug from the controller and plug it back in the microphone then works but pulling that plug in and out everytime I use ths Xbox is going to damage the socket!

There are people all over the internet complaining of this issue and yet I have never seen anywhere Microsoft acknowledge this is a problem. All they do every single time is suggest the settings are at fault when everyone who has sought help on this issue has confirmed already that the settings are as they should be.

As you all can tell I find this annoying and frustrating as it should work or Microsoft should at least acknowledge the problem. Going through the process of creating a party chat every single time I play with different people every time I play is getting tedious and infuriating.

If ANYONE has resolved this issue I would love to hear about it but PLEASE don't patronize me by simply listing the settings that I should check because like I said they are all set correctly.

Personally I think the issue is at the xbox server and but Microsoft refuse to admit it.

Do you have a IPv6 address as well as IPv4?

Internet Protocol version 6 is the most current network protocol, offering several improvements over IPv4. Most important, IPv6 expands the number of possible IP addresses (the unique numbers that represent every device on the internet). And—most useful for Xbox—the expansion removes the need for Network Address Translation (NAT), which can interfere with multiplayer gaming and chat over IPv4 networks. For more information, see:

Have you run the steps in Update xbox wireless controller? All controllers you use need to run the firmware update.

The uSB method is my preference.

You may need to purchase a controller headset adapter if the 3.5mm socket on the controller is faulty.

So what are you using for a mic? If you're using the headset and mic that came with the system, my question is... Have you tried buying a different headset? For example, I bought a wireless headset and virtually no one I know uses the cheap one that plugs into the controller that comes with these systems. If for no other reason than to see if it's a problem with the headset. Personally I do it for the sound quality.

Thank you for your reply but, as I said, I have done everything suggested by Microsoft Support and by others who try to help so yes, I have installed all updates including any for the Controller.

However, you appear to have confirmed my suspicions in that the problem is inherent in that you have clearly stated that Xbox chat needs IPv6 because that "expansion removes the need for Network Address Translation (NAT), which can interfere with multiplayer gaming and chat over IPv4 networks."

I have contacted my service provider which is KCOM and they inform me that they do not provide IPv6 connections which they are retaining until IPv4 addresses run out.

I could have saved myself an immense amount of time and frustration had I known this from the outset and as KCOM is the only service provider we have in East Yorkshire I will have to live with the lack of in game chat but at least I know why.

Instead of everyone simply unhelpfully repeating what is already on the internet I think a lot of users would be grateful to know that to get the best from an Xbox an IPv6 connection is best so perhaps this gem of information should be included on the Microsft and Xbox support websites.
