Xbox In France

Hi. My son received a first generation Xbox One as a birthday gift. It was bought in Holland and was shipped to him in France, which is where we live. I've set it up so it switches on and everything seems to be working except the controller. I simply
cannot get the controller to connect to the box and vice versa. The Xbox light on the controller flashes for a while then turns off. I have looked at umpteen help pages online this morning and have tried every combination of buttions on both the controller
and the box itself, but to no avail. The controller has fresh, brand new batteries. I've even tried with two 360 UK controllers and they don't work either.

Is the actual hardware country specific? I know that France has some peculiar laws regarding the use of WIFI, so could this be the problem? I can see no other reason for the controller and box not to connect.

It will have nothing to do with WiFi laws in France. Is the console pre owned?

 

Sorry to hear it. Please try the steps listed at the
controller troubleshooting page. You could also try using a micro USB cable to connect the controller then head over to settings and make sure it's updated. Any micro USB cable will work, even one for a cell phone if you have one. You would plug the
cable into the slot between the right and left bumpers at the back of the controller.

 

In addition to Njal' message:

360 controllers won't work in any way with a Xbox One console. So you can stop trying that.

 

Yes, I have tried the controller with a micro USB connection and it works perfectly.

 

Thanks, having one of those days and forgot to mention no 360 devices work with Xbox One.

 

I didn't think the 360 controllers would work but I wanted to test everything just in case. So now, the controller works fine with USB. It's a pre owned console which was working fine in Holland. It's only here that the WIFI isn't working. Now that
I have a working controller though, my intention is to format the console and reset and update everything and see how it goes from there.

 

Go into settings>kinect & devices>devices & accessories and check that the controller firmware is up to date, you'll see ... under the controller image, click on that.

 

I'm going to do that when I reformat it.

I will, but I'm convinced it's to do with it being a Dutch Xbox and the French WIFI restrictions here. He used to have a 360 and I bought him two brand new UK controllers because they're far cheaper in the UK than they are in France, and I couldn't get
them to work either.

 

The only difference would be power cables, which from memory you have the same plug connections. Only UK has a different one. It maybe that the console region is incorrect. If you can try to hardwire it to you router/gateway hub to see if you can connect
to internet.
