Xbox Headset microphone not working on 2 headsets

I can see from the large volume of similar posts that I am not alone in this issue but here is what I am experiencing at the moment.

On Monday night, I was quite happily talking away in chat to my friends. I went to eat dinner for about 1 hour, the headset or controller did not move from where I left it. I went back and all of a sudden, my microphone was not picking up my voice. I could
hear people but the microphone remained unable to pickup my voice.

This was using a standard xbox stereo headset that I purchased 2 months ago as a replacement. I followed the following diagnostics:

-Unplugged the adapter and plugged it back in

-Ensured there were no updates pending for either my controller or my xbox

-Hard reset the console

-Tried a different controller

-Ensured I was not on mute

I contacted MS support over chat and they said that my headset was faulty. I was slightly annoyed as this was just 2 months old but headsets/headphones break so I went out and purchased a brand new shiny XO Turtle Beach headset.

I was so excited to try it out you can only imagine my horror when it also suffered exactly the same issue as above.

What is odd is that Kinect picks up my voice if I unplug the headset. I have also tested the microphone on both headsets by plugging my controller with the headset plugged in and doing a skype test call. The microphones work fine.

For me this can only be a software issue. I am upset that I had to spend £45 on a new headset and still have the same problem but I am more concerned that this issue has been reported by so many and not been acknowledged/fixed by Microsoft so far.

I would appreciate some help on this as the Kinect microphone doesnt cut it as an audio input device for voice communication.

headset stopped workiing

hi headset stopped working bought new one not working tried everything on all websites headset works on phone perfect.powered down restarted, unplugged still says no microphone attached

 

Microsoft Xbox One Chat Headset Microphone Stops Working

This summer we have had 3 Microsoft Xbox One chat headset microphones stop working and 1 Microsoft Xbox One Stereo headset microphone stop working.

I have tried multiple Xbox One controllers and separate Xbox One console to verify the microphone no longer works.

Is there some known issue of how these headsets need to be plugged in or unplugged from the controller that could be zapping the microphone? Do we have to have the controller turned on or off before inserting the plug into the controller?

This just seems ridiculous that we keep loosing the microphone capability of these headsets.

Did the new headset include a different adapter? Could you try the headset (either one, or, preferably, both) with the new adapter, if you didn't already? (Or if you already had a spare, use that - you said the first headset was also a replacement, so maybe
you have a spare adapter already?)

It could simply be the adapter. I had a very similar experience a month back and went a little crazy before I found a spare adapter and suddenly everything worked again.

It was a brand new XO One headset by Turtle Beach. It came with a new adapter and the microphone does not register on that either.

I have tried a 3rd controller now and still no luck. I have reset the console, tried signing out of my profile and back in. I have turned off Kinect also.

Interestingly, when I unplug the microphone I get a "sorry we couldnt detect a mic" in Party chat. The moment I plug it back in the message disappears but the sound is still not being detected by the microphone.

I am getting really frustrated with this and all I have had back from MS so far is "reset to factory default". I am sorry but thats a last ditch attempt to fix a known issue. There has to be a bug somewhere that MS have not squashed.

Its hard to believe that all the others having the same problems as myself are not related.

Any further assistance would be appreciated.

This problem has been around 2014 and it's very troubling that it hasn't been fixed I just got a new controller and I do not have a faulty microphone....I am quite tired of having to use my kinect to chat especially with the level of other frustrations I
am dealing with in my life. I cannot understand why this hasn't been a top priority thing to fix....Not even a patch in an update...This is Truly infuriating.

 

Update:

Speaking with Microsoft support, they believe this is an issue with the audio card and are recommending a repair. This will take 2-3 weeks.

If it is a hardware issue I would hope Microsoft actually acknowledge it publicly as I am certainly not the only one having these issues.

I am trying a Factory Default reset tonight with the aid of a friends external HDD so I will let you know if this resolves the problem.

 

How'd you end up going with this? Been having the same issue since the start of the week. Have tried everything Microsoft support are telling me to do but nothing has resolved the issue. Not getting anywhere, pretty frustrating!

 

I am having same problem, i guess now, lots of people are i have tried literally everything. it is very annoying and after 2 non stop days of trying and getting in contact with so many workers at Microsoft, I have finally given up and I am just going to
leave it in their hands now, hope you all get it fixed soon!! I sure hope mine does too!

Sorry for the delay. I tried a complete reset to Factory and I still have the same issue.

This indicates that it is indeed a hardware fault with the on board audio card. This is immensely frustrating given that I will now be without an Xbox for 2-3 weeks whilst it gets repaired.

I suggest those having the same issue contact MS support over chat or phone as they are much more receptive there it seems.
