XBox HDMI output only works at 640p

A couple days after Christmas my XBox output suddenly stopped working normally.

The screen was fuzzy and distorted, with after images, etc. By the end of the day, it had stopped working completely, with the TV simply saying that there is no input.

I was able to reboot in low resolution mode and everything works completely normally, but if I switch back to 720, 1080 or 4k, the screen goes blank and reports no input.

I have tried:

* A different HDMI cable

* A different TV

* An OS factory reset (keeping games and data)

I'm pretty sure at this point that either there is a hardware problem with the HDMI port or that there is a problem with a low level video driver that wasn't included in the OS reset.

I'm going to try a complete factory reset, deleting all games and data, but has anyone else run into this issue and is there any other recourse if the total factory reset doesn't work? I bought the console just before Christmas last year, so of course the
limited warranty has run out (I think)

A full factory reset did not resolve the issue. It's a little bit better, in that something will now display at higher resolutions, but there are still significant issues with lines and blinking. I can't watch a movie or game with the screen blinking on
and off, with about 1 second of black for every second of content. The audio also goes in and out with the image.

The device is a couple weeks out of warranty, so it's going to cost $193.32 to fix it according to the Microsoft repair order. I can buy a brand new one from eBay for 199.99, and get it much sooner.

It's probably not surprising, but I'm a little disappointed.

Have you tried switching the display input to HDMI instead of DV or Auto in display settings?

If that doesn't work, sounds like a hardware issue based off everything you have done up to this point.

I would start online to make sure your warranty hasn't expired. First, sign in at Device Support and
then you’ll see the warranty status for your device. If it’s within warranty, repairs are free. If your device is out of warranty, you’ll be charged a repair fee.

Before spending any money on a new console/repair, have you tried plugging the HDMI into a different input on your TV? I have had an HDMI input on my audio receiver go out before.
