Xbox HDD Spinning Up every 4 minutes

Hi

My xbox One s external drive, (Lacie mobile drive usb-c 2tb) keeps spinning up every four minutes 24/7 which is very annoying and probably very bad for the drive as well. That means that my external drive spins up 15 times every hour and 360 times every
24 hours! I just want it to turn off with the xbox, while being able to download updates to my games and console in the background. Does all xbox ones demonstrate this behaviour, and if not, what can I do to fix it?

Things I have tried:

-Restarting Xbox

-Toggle the " When Xbox is off, turn off storage" on and off, and no difference, external hdd keeps spinning
up every 4 minutes

-Change from instant on mode to power save mode, which works, but then i cant keep my games up-to-date when xbox is off.

-Tried connecting hdd to different usb ports

-i've tried different usb-c to usb a cables

-resetting the xbox

-formatting the hdd and re-downloading all games

-clearing cache

-clearing game pass download que

-turning off mobile access

Is there something I've misse?

thankful for all input.

Ps. I've read the other threads on this subject, but they are all locked down now, and none seem to have an answer which is why im starting a new thread.

Retry this but add a power cycle of the console before.

Hello torskare,

I've tried to find information on this and every person talking about same problem is having the issue you are describing.

The only thing that I can tell you to do for avoiding this, would be removing instant mode off, but you want to have your games always updated, so that is not an option for you.

As additional info: also if you completely shutdown the external drive and your game are saved there you can't update them when your console is off

Hi, i have the same problem, but also with internal hdd xbox one x.. The hdd start spining every 30second,for 10s,and shut down, then again.. After one day it's almost 700 times to spin on and off the hdd , what can cause an very early failure.. With external
Adata 1TB hdd the same.. I reset the console, have no game, no apps installed, disabled the auto update functions, disabled all the "internet" features and nothing helped.Only to disable the instan-on, and use energy saving, what cause extremly long and slow
xbox start. And of course microsoft don't care about that. I think microsoft make this purposely, in hope that they destroy the hdd, and with that the think, that force you to buy an new xbox. But if that will happen, i wil buy Playstation and never more an

Thanks for the quick reply, am I right in interpreting your answer as not everyone with an xbox and an external hdd is experiencing this issue? So that if I get another HDD it might work as I want without constantly spinning up?
