Xbox Hacker

Today while i was playing Grand Theft Auto V, I put a bounty on another player and i was told i messed with the wrong person. I asked why and he replied, "Im just looking at your IP address and today is your last day on xbox live. Maybe you will learn
not to mess with people." My question is how can he obtain my IP so fast, if he actually can, and is this real or fake?

I hate hackers.

I hate hackers and the company for not allowing offline videos and games, you should be able to play without being connected to Xbox live. This is the worse I ever seen it on Xbox.

I hate hackers the most.

 

1. He's probably lying.

2. He not going to "hack" you from knowing your IP address.

 

Thanks man/woman, he would have had to of done it within the 5 minutes i was in the lobby or kept "info" he had. I just don't know the way the live network works so i was at a loss and thought i would ask the forums. I am just hoping he is lying

 

The question that has been asked countless times here: If (and that is a big if) you had the ability to hack someone, why in the hell would you tell that person you were going to do it?

 

Every true hacker out there don't broadcast that they WILL hack you, and for you to expect some impending doom as a result. Every case of it has been them announcing it AFTER the fact, not BEFORE. Besides I wouldn't put much stock into some xbl chump.

 

It is perfectly possible for them to identify your IP address and for them to be able to keep you from being able to connect to LIVE for as long as they want, yes. It's called a D/DDoS attack. Should you run into any problems like that, contact your ISP
and ask for them to provide you with a different or temporary IP address.

The split second you enter a real-time connection with someone they could have your IP address, be that off a Private or Party Chat or because you're playing together. Your IP address is the address for your whole network too, so whether or not you're still
online/still playing/still connected with them is irrelevant. If they've kept your IP they can suppress your network.

Most of the threats like this can be safely ignored because anyone who threatens to flood your network (which is what this threat was) still needs to figure out which IP is actually yours. They have to narrow it down to one --or a few-- IPs as they can't
suppress all 15 people in a typical GTA lobby. This usually happens via a Private or Party Chat invite as that's a one-to-one connection between the two of you, so if you know you've got an enemy you think may be able/looking to do this, obviously ignore any
invites you receive. Until you accept one or they identify your IP a similar way --which certainly is possible-- they're largely empty threats.

As I mentioned earlier, if you do run into a situation where someone has kicked you offline, simply call your ISP and get them to change your IP address/refund any data used by the attack. Can't keep someone offline if you're delivering mail to the wrong
address after all.

I'm not saying it's going to happen every day and that you should distrust every random Party/Private Chat invite you ever get but it's common enough for it to be something you should be aware of. Certainly don't be joining anyone who has just sent you a
message like the one you received ; )

IP address --> Computer --> all sorts of passwords and logins... Never heard a testimony about this but it's also perfectly possible.

 

You can simply turn off your modem/router for a while to change your IP in most cases. Try that if your nervous It is possible to get that information very easy but, it's just as easy to change. Go ahead and file a complaint through the console features
against this player.. Then just Block Communications and Avoid the gamer. GOOD LUCK!!!

When this happens simply mute the them and use the "report player" function.
