xbox gold billing and shared membership - please take pity on a noob!!

Apologies if this is the wrong place, I'm a total noob here and not remotely familiar with xbox one. I've looked in all the obvious places for a coherent answer and not found one!

So, my son has a gold account, which I pay for and which he apparently shares with his dad (we are not together); I want to know how much is his dad benefitting from sharing this membership? He set up a lot of my son's profile etc, so for all I know could
have set up his own xbox as my son's 'home' one. I need to know - can he access my bank details from this sharing and how do I know if my son's console here is the 'home' one?

I've cancelled the auto-renewal for now, I don't want to be paying for my ex's gaming (obviously), but don't want my son to lose out either - how do I navigate this issue? The microsoft site just takes me around in circles...

Xbox 360 live Gold Account - how many accounts do I need

When playing on the 360 each person would need to have a Gold membership if they wanted to play online.

If you were using an Xbox One only one person would need a Gold membership to play. That membership could be shared amongst all family members on the Xbox One console.

Since your son is minor I advise you to set the parental controls in order to keep the account safe:

As for benefits that come from sharing those are described in this link:

In the end is the owner of the account that is responsible for how the account is used, both good and bad. Always be careful with whom you chose to share the account data.

This situation usually suggests that you are taking advantage of gold sharing on the Xbox One. This means that someone else has a Gold membership and is set as Home on your console. The membership you share will not transfer to another console.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. In order to share a Gold membership you would need to have the account that has the Gold membership be set as Home on the console. You can follow the steps at this link to set the account as Home https://support.xbox.com/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox

Please be aware that the sharing feature is only available on the Xbox One console and is not for the 360. As well, the Gold membership will not work if the gamertags that do not have a gold membership are playing a backwards compatible title.
