Xbox gift card from wrong region

Hi all

my son received a xbox gift card from the US for Christmas and we are in the UK ...

When trying to redeem the card it says "currency mismatch" and will not allow us to redeem the card monetary value ...

we were expecting an exchange rate to be applied and it would just work... but it doesn't

Is there anything we can do ?

There’s nothing you can do except sell it or give it to someone who can use it. You cannot use gift cards, gift codes, or gifted games from another region. Currency exchange fees are very expensive, and individual divisions are responsible for their own
income. And addition to this game licensing does not allow the purchase of a game owned by another company in your region. This is one way they keep who gets paid for what straight. Sorry about that

If you bought a gift card from another region, go to your setting and change the region of the xbox to the region you bought the gift card from, Redeem it, and then you can bo back to your previous region.

The best way would be to purchase a Xbox Gift card for their region from an online store such as amazon. You say you both live in Europe, so purchase the gift card from the amazon site that is in the same region as your friend. That way you are guaranteed a gift card for the region your friend is in.

Sounds like you bought gift cards for the wrong region which sadly there is nothing to be done about that other than an account migration which would make you lose the funds from the card that did work.

Hi,

This is probably because your friend bought the gift card from another region, maybe for some cost purpose, and gift card are region locked.
