  1. Xbox Gaming Services Won't Install

I'm on PC and I bought a few games on the Xbox app, and I can't install Gaming Services with code 0x80073cf6, and I'm on Windows 11. Also, when I go to launch the games, it just has a sad face instead of a play button, and in the Microsoft Store when I play one of these games it won't launch. I've tried this multiple times.

    Xbox Gaming Services Won't Install

    Hello christian sassano,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are trying to get started in playing Xbox games when you have issues installing Xbox Gaming Services. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

Based on your description, you are seeing this error code: 0x80073cf6 on Windows 11. Error code 0x80073cf6 usually indicates that there is a problem with the Windows Store cache. Or this could occur after update and restart of Xbox app or Windows device.

May we ask for the following details:

    1. Are you having issues installing apps/games from Microsoft Store?
    2. Do you have issues signing in to any built-in app of Windows device?
    3. Can we ask if you have added your account on multiple devices? There is a possibility that you just have to remove those linked devices on your account for Microsoft Store. Try this:
      • Visit this link and sign into your account - Microsoft account | Devices
      • Scroll down and look for Microsoft Store device management: (click Manage)

      • Unlink those devices to leave space for new device.

Often times this could be resolve by doing this 3-combo: Restart, install Windows update including Optional update and restart, and disable antivirus (related apps - antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer (or something like game accelerator).

Should you have tried to perform the steps above, and issue persists, you may try to perform these:

    1. Reset the Windows Store cache. To do this, press the Windows key + R, type "wsreset.exe" (without quotes), and press Enter. This will clear the cache and restart the Windows Store.

    2. Check for Windows updates. Make sure your PC is up to date with the latest Windows updates. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    3. Try reinstalling the Xbox app. Uninstall the Xbox app from your PC, restart your PC, and then reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store.

    4. Check your internet connection. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the Xbox app.

If none of these steps work, please let us know and provide us a screenshot of the error code.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

    Sincerely,

    Gaming Services won't install

    Hi Mo R
My name is Rishabh, I hope you are doing great out there. I’m happy to help you with your question.

It sounds like you've already taken several troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with installing Minecraft and Xbox Gaming Services on your new laptop. Since the problem persists and you've exhausted the common solutions, here are a few more advanced steps you can consider trying:

    1. System File Checker (SFC) Scan:

Run an SFC scan to check for and repair any corrupted or missing system files that might be affecting the installation process.
Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
Type the command: sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Let the scan run; it will identify and fix any integrity violations.

    2. DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) Tool:

If the SFC scan doesn't resolve the issue, you can use the DISM tool to repair the Windows image.
Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
Type the command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
    Allow the process to complete.

    3. Create a New User Account:

Sometimes, issues can be related to user profile corruption. Create a new local user account on your laptop and try installing Minecraft and Xbox Gaming Services on that account.

    4.Check Windows Update:

Make sure that your Windows operating system is fully updated. Some updates might be necessary for certain apps and services to function properly.

    5. Try a Different Network:

If you're on a restricted network, some services might not work as expected. Try using a different network, such as a different Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot, to see if the issue persists.

    6. Fresh Windows Installation (Last Resort):

If all else fails, you might consider performing a fresh installation of Windows on your new laptop. This would completely reset your system and can help resolve complex issues. Make sure to back up important files before proceeding with this option.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks and regards
    Rishabh Sohal
