Xbox gametag without suffix

Hello everyone,

I have 2 issues, discovered via Minecraft Dungeon.

I noticed my name was awfull but a friend of mine told me I could change it later so I didn't mind and launched the game. After that, I decided to fix it and change my gamerteag.

I've been to the xbox website, and changed the random gamertag with what I wanted. Okay cool, it told me it was available so I validate the change.

What a surprise when I go to the console companion and see a gamertag with NUMBERS. I checked and apparently it was because someone else also had this gamertag. Ah. Didn't expect that, i thought the nubers were like in Discord.

Ok, yes. It was my old account with the name I wanted. Ok. No prob. I change the gamertag there as well for something else, hoping it will "liberate" the name for my other account; but no.

I wanted my freaking gamertag, why can't I have it as it is mine. I changed for it.

- Now I have no account with the right name

- I can't change it cause their stupid website says I already have the right one (with those awfull numbers)

So if anyone knows who I can ask, because obviously there was a mistake in all of this, i would really appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance.

Hello, yeah but you didn't understand my "question". My gamertag is available. I shouldn't have those numbers and I know it because I have the original gamertag that i liberated by changing it in the first place. I can give the support the e-mails of both
the accounts that had this specific gamertag before I tried to change it to have it on the right e-mail account.

So now, even if I know MYGAMERTAG is available, I still have the dumb MYGAMERTAG1687 instead of the one without numbers, and if I want the one without numbers, I can't because it says I already have it, so to fix this I should use a OTHERGAMERTAG to change,
then change again to MYGAMERTAG to have access to the one without numbers (because, as I said, I know it is available as I have liberated it in the other account)

So none of my changes were worth anything and if I want the one with no numbers I have to pay 2 time the change as it won't let met change for the same gamertag without the numbers

Hello, Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums.

There are currently games that need to be updated to the new gamertag.

Microsoft implemented a new Gamertags system, which means you can use the gamertag you want, only if that gamertag is already in use then an ID will be added to differentiate it. In this way, several people can have the same garmetag but with a different
ID.

within the last hour, my only issue i can see is that i allready have the maffa82 gametag but with the #2350 at the end, im thinking it wint let me change it to what it allready is but without the suffix at the end or will it just change itself knowing there wont be anohter maffa82 gametag?

Hello Filippos, usually the old Gamertags are suspended in the system until it is put back to choice, if by chance some Gamertag that chooses presents a suffix is because it is already in use and the suffix is so that more people can use the same GT.

Unfortunately we have no way of knowing how long the system takes to make this inclusion of the old Gametags.

If you want a Gamertag without suffixes, you'll have to choose a name or write in a way that hasn't been used yet.

Hi,

You cannot change the suffix that was added to your gamertag. If you'd like to change how the classic gametag appears for locations that don't support modern gamertags, you can se the "Customize classic gamertag" option when reserving your gamertag.
NOTE: A suffix is added when that exact gamertag is already registered. If you enter a unique gamertag, no suffix will be added.
