xbox gamertag system sucks

I just tried to change my gamertag and ended up only changing the classic version of it. And when I went to support I either got a stupid bot or a Xbox gamer that couldn’t do a thing about it. I refuse to pay another $10 Microsoft, fix your system.

If you mean you tried to bypass the system by using the classic gamertag change rata a different issue

Your primary gamertag is what shows

When you run into games like bc or titles not updated to the new symbol system thats your classic

Since you have a custom gamertag already you don't get free name changes no matter which YouTube video you look up they skipped the part where it has to be a randomly generated name which your is not

As mentioned the classic gamertag has no bearing in your gamertag except for older games

If you have an Xbox 360 you can plug it in and get the old gamertag system there. It's currently the only way to get the old gamertag system. It sucks it's inconvenient but it's the only way
