    Xbox Gamertag System is Flawed in my Opinion


    There are a multitude of accounts on xbox that have near zero or literally zero gamerscore, indicating a state of inactivity. These accounts sometimes have certain gamertags that individuals want to switch to, but Microsoft would rather protect an inactive account than assist a customer who actively supports their system and products. Why is this the case?

    The gamertag system is flawed. The current system allows any third party who happened to grab a gamertag first (regardless of which generation xbox system they were on) and essentially camp it until someone wants it. Then when someone wants it, the owner is allowed to charge an absurd amount of money and sell the account right under Microsoft's noses.

    Inactive accounts should not be allowed to do this. If an account is inactive, there should be a system to request a name change that a team can then review to see if it is truly inactive. If it is, then the gamertag can be force changed so that the active member of the community can utilize it. The force change system already exists since Microsoft uses it to change offensive gamertags ( i.e. gamertags containing profanity) so it is definitely possible to apply a similar system towards inactive accounts with a simple extra step of an account review team to process the request.

    This is my first time on this subreddit, but I am hoping someone sees this and that change can be made. Thank you for your time.

    While I can't prove this, I've heard of publishers paying people to rate products higher. Assuming that's true, that would make it a flawed system.
