Xbox Gamertag Mistake

So recently I decided to change my Xbox Gamertag to the username I wanted. So I chose it but after the username there were numbers that I did not enter. I looked into it and found out that apparently that happened when your username was taken. The account
the username was taken on was my other account that I no longer used so I changed my name on that account to something different. However, the numbers were still after my name in my current account. I asked an Xbox gamer and she told me to request a refund
but since it was free there is no order number so I can't request a refund so now I'm not sure what to do because I don't want some random numbers after my name.

You did a great job in updating your in-game gamertag!

In connection to that, we would like to clarify, to change both. gamertag. are you referring to profile gamer tag and in game gamer tag?

Gamertag is what you can see on your account, when you sign into your Xbox profile - https://account.xbox.com

Meanwhile, an in-game gamer tag/profile name/username have dedicated account settings for update or change.

However, there update or change of in-game gamer tag/profile name/username that will depend on the account policy of the game. The change of your in-game gamer tag or username can be done on the in-game account settings. If you cannot find it just go to your game's website and sign in. If there is no option, please reach out to the game support for assistance.

It all depends if you choose a gamertag thats already been used. Thats the reason you getting the #0000 at the end. New gamertag system is a bit similar to discord username, those #0000 are there so you can have any gamertag you want without adding extra
characters or random words to come up with a unique gamertag.

Limited time to fix errors, not a complete edit. You could have a confirmation message saying gamertag blahblah will be permanently changed within X time, please review and edit mistakes.
