    Xbox Gamertag Expiration


    Hi!,

    I've read before that gamertags (well, the microsoft account associated with them) that are inactive for x amount of time will expire and then be available again. I've read that this is 2 years and also 5 years. I also read that it was September 2021 when gamertags that have been inactive for 5 years will be available? When is this happening?

    I created a gamertag for a second account and am now looking to use that gamertag as my primary. I've forgotten the login details for this account otherwise I would change it, but I haven't used this account for over 9 years! I've checked to see if the gamertag is now available but it's still unavailable.

    Would someone be able to provide any solid information regarding this?

    Also be aware that the tag system is in use on other Microsoft services. There is no way to know for sure how active an account is.

    Unfortunately, the only way to obtain the gamertag iRosales is to wait for Microsoft to do another gamertag recycle. It appears that the last gamertag recycle was done in 2016, so if you are determined to have that gamertag, you can attempt to change it at social.xbox.com. However, please be aware that since the gamertag is already taken, you will be given an automated suffix with numbers included in the gamertag.

    It's random so everyone has an equal chance you will just have to work with the hashtag system or just keep kn trying. In the lottery system

    Gamertag isn't a on-demand service

    The system does warn you if you will have a hashtag or not
