XBox gamertag - delete/remove from associated microsoft account

My primary email address (important as it used for main contact, Office 365 subscription etc) is also associated with an Xbox gamertag that is, essentially, not mine. I set it up years ago to help out a friend of the family not realising the impact. I now
have an xbox one and want my everything in one place. I currently have to sign in to Xbox One with a secondary email address. I have searched but can't find an answer.

Hopefully I can do the following:

Keep primary email and Office 365 subscription

Delete redundant gamertag tied to primary email

"Import" gamertag and subscription info tied to secondary email

To my knowledge, this only removes the gamertag from the Xbox. It does not delete the gamertag or remove it from an associated email account.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that option will delete everything associated with my primary email so is definitely not an option.

Like was said above is the best option that you have, you can associate your email to another Microsoft Account but notice, and this is very important, you cannot delete the Main Microsoft account or it will delete everything.

I will try to explain better:

Microsoft Account A - Email A - Xbox Gamertag A

Microsoft Account B - Email B - Xbox Gamertag B

You can associate Email A to Microsoft Account B which will became available to you to login Xbox Gamertag B with Email A by using the Alias system.

But since now the Xbox Gamertag is associated with the Microsoft Account, you cannot delete only that gamertag, you only can delete the Microsoft Account for all (email, account, xbox gamertag...etc).

So if you really want to do this you remember to not delete any of the Microsoft Accounts.

There's no way for you to completely remove a gamertag from the system yourself. Removing it from a Microsoft account or deleting the Microsoft account, does not delete the Xbox account. If the gamertag was freed up in one of the previous mass gamertag releases
or the person who owns the account doesn't sign in for 5 years (starting 2016) the tag will be freed up for use.
