Xbox gamertag and Fortnite display name

I thought that whatever your xbox GT is, that's what you have to have as your Fortnite display name. My GT was "CrazyGamer1213" and my display name was also that. However my epic name is "AKAsyk." I obviously made my GT when I was younger so it's a bit cringe.
So when I changed my GT to "KARMA," I expected the in-game display name to change- it didn't. Also when I click my home button it says my new GT right, but doesn't in fornite...

Epic games GT and xbox GT are not linked i'm sorry but i found a way how to change your epic games name

1. Visit your account's ACCOUNT INFO page.
2. In the box labeled DISPLAY NAME, enter your desired new display name.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click SAVE CHANGES.

After reading through it seems that the issue itself is that Fortnite servers will recognize the name of the Xbox gamertag for your Fortnite account and unfortunately if these two are linked, then the gamertag would have to be changed in order to see that
different display name.

In this case, the Epic Games Forums website does have community information
on how to unlink the two and this would be our best suggestion so that you can then switch the display name without the connection of the Xbox account.

Try this and let us know if this works.
