  1. Xbox Game Prices vs Playstation (and digital vs physical)

I'll keep this brief. My household has always contained a console from all 3 of the big names- Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

Now upon going through the stores over the past year and a bit, I just need to know... Why the HELL are the same games you find on both consoles, more EXPENSIVE on the Xbox store?! I didn't get so excited for this pre-E3 sale as I knew, typical Xbox store
will be expensive... I checked the Playstation store and went back to my Xbox earlier today and realised significant price differences on Destiny 2 and Burnout Paradise Remastered just to name a few and I was VERY disappointed. Now after all these significant
price differences I've tracked over time, I think I finally realised why my Sony-ONLY friends mocked me and Microsoft so much...

Side question- You are paying for a digital copy of a game so it can sit inside the digital world of a hard drive, with no added plastic, paper or other materials used to create a disc etc. So why on Earth is paying for access to a game more expensive than
    buying actual physical materials?

...Or can we just say my Sony-ONLY friends were right that M$ are just money hungry even though they have more than enough money to buy out other studios...? If so I guess we can say I answered my own question...

I've been part of the Xbox universe since the first machine came out and I still am today... After all this nonsense I'm learning about as the years go by and after all the things people around me are telling me, I just sit here and wonder sometimes, did
I make a bad decision with my investments after all these years and or will I continue to do so in the years to come?

    :)

  2. Anyone else going all Digital?

I'm really wanting to go all digital but the prices of digital vs physical are stupid, if they were £5-£10 cheaper then I'd go 100% digital. At the minute it seems digital is more expensive, I hope this changes in the future.

Xbox Game Prices vs Playstation (and digital vs physical)

Prices are made by the publisher's, not Microsoft.

  5. What? For real? Why the heck do they make the Xbox One games more expensive? Why doesn't MS tell them, "hey these games are cheaper elsewhere and will make us lose customers?"

I decided to go full digital but honestly I think it was a huge mistake. The same games on the Playstation store and physical copies at stores are way cheaper.

Still doesn't really answer my question on why digital games are more expensive than physical materials. It makes no sense. MS should take control of their store.

psn plus also provides additional discounts

Again it all depends on the publishers Sony has also a 3day sale and yes its is a bonus effect Sony most likely went and said OK we aren't releasing a new console (already said they didn't). Plus drop your prices for our 3day sale

Physical games are msrp and only the publishers can suggest those prices along with their partners via vouchers

Ask any game store who sets the price the answer will shock you not the store or Ms or Sony but the publishers ajd distributors

And no network's can't set prices that's price fixing. And highly illegal and gamestop has been charged once for doing so for artificially dropping or raising prices

They can ask but they can't force it

Why is there no competition between retailers on the pricing of ...

reddit: the front page of the internet › Games

Sony prices will go up after their temporary sale is over

Dropping their prices to force other stores to drop their prices is illegal via collusion

Look up Amazon vs book publishers etc

Publishers not.stores sett prices anything else will.end in court badly for the stores

Disregarding the correct answer does not make her answer wrong

Google who controls prices it's not stores or hosts but publishers this has been around for years

Digital prices are usually higher because the publisher's leave them at MSRP as long as they can. Stores only have to cover their costs and don't have to answer to the publisher's. So they have wiggle room to start dropping prices whenever they want.

...A little birdie told me that Microsoft is in-fact somewhat in control of their 'sales' and prices... "They require a certain 'cut' of the profits". Figures.

I see why now people have been criticising them (and me) and where the name M$ comes from. Its a real shame.

I was even again disappointed to see why some of my friends are obsessing over the Playstation now... When they have 'sales' every game, including DLC and AAA titles are all listed between $30 AU and as little as $5 AU. I am very
disappointed. Plus I also see that they can get discounts on their PSN AND sometimes pay as little as $50 AU a year... Again, I just have to say, this absolutely blows. They get 70-80% off of things whereas we get some $5-$20 saving. And if anything IS EVEN
discounted, its usually just those crappy cheap, arcade or indie games nobody plays and microtransaction DLCs.

Destiny 2 with all its expansions was and still is on the cheap, like very cheap. On our store its still a wallet killer. Older games become cheap, but with us they remain between $50, $75 or $120.

Every company is going to have a part of the price, even PS, but the prices are still largely set by the publishers who set them so they still make their own profits which is why they tend to keep digital prices higher.

MS does offer discounts on gold too. Keep an eye on your dashboard. Although it's usually much cheaper to just buy it as a prepaid code elsewhere.

Too be honest there really isnt a andswer for that but i try too explain. I dont think microsoft has anything too do with the price they just take a cut same with sony and nintendo. Its the game dev that decides how much they charge they make the game and
have the overheads etc. Microsoft all tho do is have the store front and for letting 3rd party use that store front they take a cut.

It is true that digtail doesnt have the out lay of a disc. However its about supply and demand and what they charge for it retailers such has gamestop amazon etc will bareter with a small publisher and say we will onyl stock your game for this price there
basicly a very big reatiler and the publisher doesnt really have much say too too and has too agree or not have there game in the bigest retailers around. Also if digtail was cheaper gamestop would be out of bussiness this isnt what microsoft needs them too
sell consoles. These companys have a lot weight and decided the market

No kidding. It's hard to find their physical media at a decent price for some games too.
