Xbox game pass ultimate

I had a Xbox gold subscription but then my friend told me to get to game pass ultimate because it would also give you Xbox live gold but after that there was a countdown in my home screen that said your gamepass ultimate expires in whatever amount of days but when the countdown ended it said I still had one more day but I was still not able to join any parties like if I had no Xbox live gold.

Someone help me out.
