xbox game pass isn't just $1

I'm just going to get right into it.

During this year, while I'm still in online learning for college, I went to my local GameStop and got myself Doom 2016. On the receipt, I noticed a code on it and entered it into my xbox one which gave me a 3mo. xbox live gold sub. In addition, my xbox offered
me a sub to xbox game pass which, at the time, said it was just $1.Seeing as how it was just $1, I jumped at the chance, used the $1.09 in my cashapp account at the time, and subbed. Yesterday, my sub was done so today I went to my local dollar general and
got myself a 3mo. xbox live gold sub card. But, when I entered the code, my xbox said it couldn't be used unless I settle my overdue $16.32?! I beg your pardon, my [mod removed]? Did I somehow miss the fine print or something when I added the $1.09 for my
additional xbox game pass sub?? Can someone please explain this to me?
