Xbox game pass games won't work

Since about a month I've been unable to play any games from the xbox game pass app on my pc. I get this error: 'this operation returned because the timeout period expired' with every single game I try.

This happened rather out of the blue, I can't remember doing anything to possibly have caused this other than maybe some windows update that might've occured in the meantime? All my other games work fine.

I googled for answers to this specific issue and found that in some cases people had to reset the windows store cache. So I gave that a try, to no avail unfortunately. I then thought, maybe the Xbox app is faulty and needs to be reinstalled. That's when
it got worse I guess, because I have been completely unable to get it reinstalled since. In the windows store the download will never start after pressing install. And after downloading the installer from the website and clicking install the progress bar will
never actually do anything. So it's acting as if it's trying to install it, but in reality nothing is happening.

I'm kind of at a loss here because I have no idea how to fix this and still I'm paying for the subscription anyway.

I really don't want to need to reinstall windows just to get this to work, all my other programs are completely fine...

I hope there's someone out there with an idea that can help me out.
