Xbox Game Pass Games won't start after Windows 10 Update

I have three games (Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Back 4 Blood) that will no longer run. This coincided with some updates that were installed 2 days ago.

When starting from the Xbox App, I get an error that states "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." It shows the directory path to the game.

When starting from the Start menu, the games do not start, but I don't get an error. Just nothing.

I discovered that if I choose 'Run as Administrator' when running the game from the Start menu, the games do run.

In addition, the Xbox app runs very slowly, icons slowly popping in, not very responsive.

I have googled around and tried several solutions on my own. In addition, I have spoken with Xbox support and Windows support. They have had me Repair and Reset the Xbox and Microsoft Store apps, turn off non-Microsoft services, and finally we did an in-place reinstall of Windows 10 Home. None of these have fixed the problem.

All other games run without issue on this PC. I can successfully run these Game Pass games on a second PC, through the Xbox app, without issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I tried all the steps listed in order. There was no change. Still the same issue as before.

Hi there 5000brians welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. I suggest you try these basic troubleshooting steps!

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services.

Then try this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command, then you're going to open the gamepass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again :

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.

If you have already done this, well, I suggest you try this:

Open the Settings app it is the gear in the start menu.

Open Accounts

Click Sign-in Options

Scroll down to Privacy

Uncheck "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update and restart."

Restart your PC!

Hi,

Sorry about your problem there. Most people who experience either games not downloading on the PC Game Pass or games that won't run usually have an issue with their copy of Windows 10 and its security and feature updates.

Even though your Windows is up to date, its updates are not correctly installed. Have you tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter built into Windows 10?

You only can play Xbox Game Pass PC games with the last build of Windows 10. U want to update to last build, install xbox beta app and after install games.
