Xbox Game Pass Does Not Recognise Any Storage Drives

Problem

The Xbox PC app does not recognise any storage device I have on my PC.

This presents in an identical way to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Beta no install drive showing - Microsoft Community from 2019 and Windows Store/ Xbox app is not detecting hard drive. - PC Gaming - Linus Tech Tips from June this year.

Failed Attempted Fix 1

According to this post I need to ensure that optional update KB5004237 is installed. However, I cannot find that in the windows update catalogue either from Windows Update on my pc or here. All I can find with the name KB5004237 from Microsoft is KB5004327: Error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F occurs when you install or start Gaming Services on a Windows 10 device (microsoft.com) which contains a link to information on KB5004476, which is in the Microsoft Update Catalogue but cannot be accessed from my local windows update. I cannot find it in my update history either. As I am not familiar with WSUS I don't know how to install it outside windows update.

Failed Attempted Fix 2

I have used the app settings functionality to repair, reset and uninstall then reinstall the app with no change in behaviour.

Unattempted Fix

I have found a proposed fix here. However this does involved mucking around in PowerShell, which I am not confident with. Before I attempt this I'd like to now if there are more understandable solutions.

Try the command below, please.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage

That hasn't worked. I don't think the powershell command executed properly as the app is still listed:

The only change, and this happened after I performed the regedt step the second time is that there is now an E: between the brackets of the drive selection widget:

Still can't install though.

First, welcome to the Xbox community. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

There are some solutions that you can try without needing the PowerShell, for some people they work, others continue to report the same problem, I ask you to try them there and let me know if it works for you, please.

*Follow each step in order, even if you've already done it, do it again, please.

Solution 1:

Open RegEdit as an administrator and delete the following Services:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet]

PC reboot

Install gaming service like you would normally

Solution 2:

Go to your windows settings, go to the tab>applications and resources>Search for Gaming Services, click on it, go to advanced options, and tap repair.

Solution 3:

Download the Create Windows 10 installation media application from the link below, at the end of the download run the application, and then follow the instructions given by the program at the end click on upgrade. Rest assured none of your files will be lost, this is a system restore that will try to fix this error.
