Xbox Game Pass and Disc downloads

One thing I feel like they should fix is the error with downloading a game from a disc and it downloads it from the game pass. I have had so many friends have this problem. Most have GOTY editions which come with the dlcs on disc but when it downloads
the game through game pass it doesn’t travel the dlcs.

What do you mean by the Xbox One does not have any digital version of games? Everything stored on the Xbox One is digital. On the non-disc based games the license is stored on the HDD while on the disc based games the license is stored on the disc.

If for example I had a game in my collection on disc, installed from disc, then suddenly the game either became a Games with Gold, or a Game Pass title (assuming I had a game pass sub), that disc based game will no longer ask for the disc, should I attempt
to launch it without said disc. The console will know I own the 'digital' license for it and won't check to see if the disc is present.

Sometimes there is confusion on these forums regarding games, installed from disc or downloaded. The disc games and the downloaded games are the same, only the way you get them is different.

That is the point I'm getting at.

So, are you saying that all preowned games that were on discs are no longer playable on the xbox series s without game pass or repurchasing as a digital download?

While the game does indeed need to fully download, it's not a 'Game Pass version' as there no Call of Duty games on Game Pass.

Even though the game is largely a download, you'll still need to put the disc in the console to prove ownership and launch the game. If you don't have the disc in the drive, the console will ask if you own the game.
