  1. xbox game chat

I've been gaming on pc lately while my 3 friends still use xbox. I have been trying to join an xbox party they created but once i join i can only hear them and cant speak to them. Ive tried everything i can to fix the problem but dont know where im going
wrong. Do i need to download a seperate app onto my pc? For those wondering, I have my headset plugged into my controller which is then connected to my pc. Im not sure if that has to do with my problem but i havent figured it out. Thanks for any help

    :)

    xbox headset

are you doing Xbox chat or game chat? If you are doing game chat there are issues with fortnite atm dealing with game chat but you can try to turn off and on party chat settings and make sure that within the game that you want to be in-game chat or party
    chat within the lobby.

No In-Game chat while using Xbox Companion App

    Hi AustinM2,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. I'd be happy to help.

Are you streaming to Twitch directly from the Twitch app on the Xbox? Or are you streaming your Xbox One to your PC through the Xbox Console Companion app? Are you using party chat on the Xbox, or a party through the Xbox Companion app?

What you are describing is by design using the Xbox Live party chats because the servers for the chat are separate from the in-game chat servers. Xbox Live parties effectively mute in-game chat, and mute yourself from in-game chat as well because as I mentioned
previously, party chats and in-game chats run on different servers. Xbox Live parties are more private channels for chatting with friends, so the muting aspect is by design. I believe this is why many Twitch streamers use Discord since you can hear both the
Discord chat and in-game chat at the same time.

    Fortnite Mic Issue

Have you checked the game's chat settings? In some cases it may be disabled or set to xbox group chat instead of in-game chat.

Live chat was working, now can't hear each other

Party chat is a voice chatroom that resides in the operating system of the Xbox. Game chat is the chat feature built into a certain game. Party chat allows users to chat while playing different game titles. Do a search on Xbox.com about NAT ratings.

    Xbox Game Chat

    Hello ,

We have read through your post here and would like to further investigate this issue. This will involve a few other tests to discover what could be causing this.

Have you attempted to try recreating the same results on another Xbox one console? As well, have you tried a different profile on the same Xbox One console?

Another suggestion comes to the hardware being used. We understand that a different headset has been attempted, but would like to see if a different controller causes the same occurrence.

Lastly, have you attempted to check for firmware updates on the controller? Please attempt to follow our update
    your Xbox One Controller
support article for information on how to do so.

Try this for us and let us know the results of all suggestions, we will be here for your reply.

    Best wishes!
Just in case you are not alerted to edits to a post I have pasted the second edit in my post in the hopes you know where to look

    EDIT 2:

    13. After an hour at the Microsoft store they gave up.

    A. We set up 3 xbox's one of which was mine. We setup everything as normal with two employees logged into other xbox's and we all joined a game. One employee, let's call him A, was in my party one was not, and let's call him B. A could hear and speak
to me and I could hear and speak to him. Employee B could hear me speak but I could not hear him talk. So we were able to replicate in the store my problem at home. Once again they assumed it was hardware. Fine. We swapped out my controller with another
one from the store. Twice. Nicely done Microsoft store...way to have two broken controllers on the floor. Eventually we got a working one and basically did a round robin of xbox, my profile, headset, and game...and we rotated everything through. ONCE everything
was swapped through and the problem wasn't diagnosed we tried to reset my profile. NOT even sure what that meant but it took him about 8 minutes to do and it still doesn't work.

So...by going to the store...with Microsoft employees we have, without a doubt, determined that it has NOTHING to do with Xbox, controller, headset, my network, privacy settings, or games. The
(Mod Removed) part is they don't even know where to reach out to to see about fixing this. Apparently there is no 1-800 number to the mother ship in Washington to magically look at my profile in the central repository. Can anyone help point
me in the right direction there?
