Xbox Game Bar says "We can't show your friends right now. Try again in a bit."

It appears that the issue is related to the account that was signed in.
before we proceed:

First, Check privacy settings on your Xbox account:

Log in to your Xbox account online ( https://www.microsoft.com/store/b/xbox ) and go to "Privacy & online safety."
Make sure your privacy settings are set to allow you to see your friends and their online activity.

Additionally, if the account is a child account or managed by parent under Xbox Family settings group, only parent can change the settings because the child can only see it. To change the settings. the parent must sign in her/his account and click on child account to change the settings above.

Hello RexGhezali, in addition to uninstalling, tried some more procedure on your PC, checked if your Windows has the latest version installed, at 21H1.

See which version of Windows 10 you have

If you don't already, update windows, they come as optional updates, and then update to make sure your Xbox Apps are up to date.

NOTE: At this time I write to you the Live servers are in maintenance, this can affect Xbox services.

Hey! I just had a similar issue and heres the steps i took that fixed this,

I opened the xbox app, not the game bar.

i signed out of my microsoft account from there, as well as signing out on the game bar

I signed back in and opened the game bar after

And boom my friends list was appearing again!

We have consulted this thread to our internal support team and so far, they are suggesting the following steps below.

1. Creating a new email address (you can use free one from Outlook.com) and edit your Xbox profile to use that new email address instead. Let us see if that fixes the issue.

2. See the troubleshooting step listed on Troubleshoot Xbox Game Bar on Windows.

Additionally, try signing in your Xbox account to other PC connected on different network to isolate if this is not related to your personal connection with your internet.

It appears that the issue is related to the account that was signed because it works with the other account that was signed as it was provided on the steps #7. Let us then check the online safety and privacy of that account. Follow the steps below:

• Log in tohttps://account.xbox.com/settings. Make sure to sign in the right account associated with the gamertag.
  
• In the navigation tabs, click Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety
  
• Select Allow for You can create and join clubs, and You can join multiplayer games.
  
• Then click Submit
  

To enable chat for people:

• Click Privacy
  
• Select Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites.
  
• Select Friends or Everyone then click submit.
  

To enable adding and removing friends:

• In the navigation tabs click Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety
  
• Select Allow for You can add friends
  
• Press Submit

Hi there,

Thanks for the response. All of those privacy settings are already set to "Allow." I was able to join a group in troubleshooting step 6 and I was able to follow and add my alternate account as a friend. I also sent a couple messages back and forth from the mobile app with my PC. It's specifically the friends tab that is not working.

My account is also not under any Xbox Family settings. Everything was working fine for the last few years. This issue had just started happening a few days ago.
