Xbox Game Bar Party Chat can hear seemingly all computer audio

Im in an xbox party on Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11, and my input and output are set to just my headset and mic, but the people in my party can hear themselves, spotify, youtube, etc, all quite clearly as if the input was set to my desktop audio. This isnt an issue of headset echo, since the party volume isnt that high to begin with. I've looked for solutions online to no avail, has anyone else has this issue? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I dont want to use push to talk lol

    :)

Xbox Game Bar Party Chat can hear seemingly all computer audio

    Hey Nebuley,

Sorry to hear you are having party audio issues with your PC. I may go over some things you've already tried. Here are some troubleshooting tips that hopefully help. Before you attempt these steps, make sure your PC is completely up to date by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

In the game bar (Win+G) and in your party, click the 3 dots (...) and go to Party Audio. Then click Audio Settings change your audio output to different outputs. For your party to hear you, make sure you change your audio input as well to the Laptop's default mic.

Note: If you're going to use your Laptop's speaker, your party may end up hearing themselves as an echo, since it is a speaker. Using either a Bluetooth or wired headset is preferred for optimal use for both sides.

Try different audio formats for party chat

Windows PC audio devices support a wide range of audio formats. Sometimes, incompatibilities with drivers or the audio software on Windows can affect audio playback or recording.

To try different formats, follow these steps:

    1. Select the Start button and in the Search box enter control panel.
    2. Select Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. (You may see Devices and Printers, depending on what updates you’ve taken to your PC.)
    3. Right-click the default device (it’ll be checked), select Properties, and then select the Advanced tab.
    4. In Default Format, select the drop-down box to change the audio format. Once you’ve changed the format, check the playback by selecting Test.
    5. When you’re done, select OK.
Repeat these steps for each format and audio device to find the one that’s best suited for your setup.

Lastly, under the Advanced tab in the Sound settings check if the "Audio Enhancement" may be causing you any issues by unchecking the box.

Why does use of Xbox Party Chat via Xbox Game bar mute all OTHER audio?

    Hello Alexander B,

I'm Nilay and I'll be glad to answer your query today.

You may fail to hear the Xbox Game Bar party chat if the Game Bar is outputting audio to a different device than your headset. In this context, setting the headset as the output device in the Game Bar settings may solve the problem.

    headset with jack 3.5

    Hello bricelecart,

You play on your Xbox One? if so, do this :

Guide Button - System - Audio - Headset Chat Mixer

All the way to the left to only hear game audio, all the way to the right to only hear party audio. The middle notches are to mix it, so you can get a good game/party ratio that suits you.

Party Chat Trouble Exclamation Point Triangle

This is really starting to piss me off, I don't know what's going on.. my party chat was working absolutely fine and then all of a sudden people can't hear me in the party chat.

So if I join a party and I have the Xbox Game bar on the screen and can view the party people can hear me

However if I don't have xbox game bar on my screen they cannot hear me but I can still hear them? ( its like something isn't allowing it to run in the background )
